Roll Back Discussion

I am perfectly happy playing an AD333 or even a Tour Response when playing a few practice holes, and they stretch to 20 or 30 holes. And only break out a new AVX every 4th hole when playing competitions. So different balls for practice and real play already part of my routine. Run down my stash of AVX (and ProV1 for windy days) over the next few years and will be good to restock with AVX-Rollbacks.
They will need a snazzy new name for the new balls!

AVX and pro V1 rip.

Any name suggestions guys for the new balls.?

I've got 10 dozen brand new balls in the garage. I'll just change my ball every time I make a birdie. Job done 😁

Not sure if this has been asked before, but what happens to the millions (billions?) of balls that are currently in existence?
What happens to them now when they are knackered?

How many greens do you think you hit with 7 iron?
I have no idea - what does that matter? Plenty of rounds I probably don't hit a single approach with 7 iron. It's not about specific clubs. I said if you hit every approach one club longer your greens hit % would go down. That's essentially an indisputable fact unless you happen to be an outlier who's more accurate with longer clubs.

It is a fact. And statistically, being further from the green, you will miss it more. For the majority of us, I think its in the region of 0.05-0.08 shots. So if we extend that to 18 holes its a shot or a little more per round. But...the club longer is really only going to matter to the longest in the game, the 110mph group and above. They may have some left in the tank to mitigate that, but if they dont, then they are likely to be a shot higher. This has some consistency with what the RA/USGA want to do - they do want higher scores.
But for the rest of us in sub 100mph land, where we are talking 5 yards difference with driver, or even less to nothing, then the difference will be significantly less than that. Maybe a third or half a shot at most. We just wont see it.
And, for those concerned about handicap effect, all courses will have a new CR. Probably not even needing a survey - just a corrective factor. That will leave our handicap unchanged.

The best news today is the flagging of a driver restriction as the next step. Presumably the ball is now set, and they arent going to revisit that for decades at least. But that the driver would be the next rollback lever. Its the one I would have preferred - like the anchored long putter, the 460cc driver is ungolfing to me. A reduction to 320 or something would be nice.

Generally speaking I'm not too disappointed with the outcome. I'd have rather they just change the pro ball and leave us alone - but from the statement today I estimate I'll probably only lose 3 or 4 yards on drives and even that depends on what balls do and don't conform it seems. So it's not the worst outcome to take.

Will youse stats change much depending on the distance. I can see if you have to take an 8i instead of a 9i that can make a difference. If it's 80 yards ideas of 65 does that have the same statistical difference from 150 to 165?

I say that, because as a long hitter who will lose more distance than most amateurs, on most courses, championship excluded, if I nail my driver I'm below 100 and pitching, which is very different from people I play with who are hitting short or even mid irons in.

Of course i'd rather be 65 out bit does the 0.05 stat translate

I've lost about 15-20 yards off my irons and about 30 off my driver in recent years, due to age and injury
Handicap has gone form 6/7 to 12.
Not sure another 5 will make that much difference
Yes I’m similar.
But find I’m now hitting woods for second shots and par 3s.
another 5 yds isn’t making it any easier.
