Although my post was in jest this was kind of my point. Yes it's on the banned list I get that, but I don't see how it can be classed as a performance enhancing drug when it's quite the opposite lol.

Drugs don't have to be "performance enhancing" to be illegal in sport.
It's a recreational drug that is widely abused/used (take your pick) throughout the world. The image of golf is also on the line here to.
