Retirement

Just put my my papers in to retire in 4 months.
After factoring in annual leave, wfh and other abstractions I only have to commute into London another 33 times.

New kitchen measured up and ordered from Wren at the weekend. Just need to find a builder/fitter to do the business.

The house will be ready to rehome our long-awaited next dog in early 2026.

All ready to start looking after local lawns and hedges come Spring. MrsA helps run a local dance-fitness class and has already got a list of local older ladies asking how soon I can start.

Looking forward to the next chapter.
Missis Ts mum
Was always asking re tash doing bits and bobs in the garden.
Eventually input her in touch with a guy I knew from the pit. She now loves it when he calls round. She just loves having the Company.
Beware though. The questions have started.
How old is he😳
Do you live local.
I think she fancies the muscular man working in her garden. 😂

I'll be in the area every Wednesday as long as Dad keeps going. I have many years of experience with the elderly and demented so I'm pretty good at distracting and moving on without them realising. Give her my number. 😎

128 days to go and they have found my replacement so now I am putting together his training and handing over all I have in writing (well shared on OneDrive). I'm a hoarder of info so some stuff goes back for 17 years, but its amazing how some of it can still be relevant.
The main task is trying to transfer over what is in my head as there is a rolodex up there which spins around and allows me to remember things from years ago. But my replacement is a good lad and I think he will do really well in the role. It's basically been moulded around me for the last 17 years so fresh blood is definitely a positive. And the market has changed dramatically and I do know it is the right time to go.
It is, however, an odd feeling. I've worked (well, been employed) for 50 years non-stop and so retiring is now becoming real and feeling a little weird. I know I will enjoy it when it happens, and I already have put things in place that I will have plenty to do, but it is going to be odd after working for 75% of my life.

I was retired at 58 on full pension and redundacy package after a 35 year career . I bricked myself. My last location/position was for 10 years and, within the next 5 years 4 very young managers, on half my salary, were appointed and burned.
Back then, if you'd asked me was my job stressful I'd have said "No, just demanding". Up at 7, home by 6, eat, bath kids, put them to bed and read with them, then always some work related stuff on PC. Managing 25 staff but great bonhomie with them and my peers.
Fast forward 3 months, wife still nursing with NHS and I'm becoming pretty good at, and interested in, cooking.
FFW 6/9 months, wife down to 1 night a week (soon to retire) and if you asked me was my job stressful I'd say "Absolutely".

When you're in it it's the norm and you can't see how it consumes your time and your mind (even though I have no regrets for the current lifestyle it's given me).
But here I am, 17 years retired, in good health, enhanced by retirement believe

Be careful as going from a stressful busy full time job to suddenly doing nothing can sometimes be difficult to handle.
Good luck and happy retirement (y)

Today, I am mostly planning a week's golf on Arran for next year. Bit of lunch, then off to the range!

Retirement is like a project role. Needs good planning, but remember, "loafing about doing nothing" is still a valid project activity, although in the world of work, it was logged as "project admin!" :ROFLMAO:

I didn’t get finished doing nothing yesterday, forcing me to try and complete doing nothing today… :ROFLMAO:

Being retired for me is harder than when I worked.
Trying to fit everything we want to do in with everything the family want us to do takes a lot of organising.

Fortunately the wife is brilliant at this and it all gets put on the wall planner it’s like a military operation. 😂

It was easier when I worked. The days now are filled with lots of fragmented time slots for different things. Too much for my addled mind to track.

This x 10.
I had one of the kids ask me last night if I could go round hers this morning and sit and wait as she had something being delivered between 9-5 today and both her and her husband are at work.
I look on the planner and I already got things planned most of the day but have got 3 hours spare between about 1-4.
Daughter’s response was you don’t do anything 😂.
Now me and the wife are doing shifts at the daughter’s house trying to catch the delivery

Tash surprised you’ve been out on a bike before a psa test as they don’t advise to to do that as it might give a false reading.

Just mentioned that to Missis Tash. Her exact words. “ oh bloody hell it does” 🤬

Looks like that bloody Honey badger has won.

Er, she has just said “ejaculation does as well”. Good job I never did a PSA Test last September 😳
