In our summer pairs competition my partner and I have had to replay our match twice, due to being all square twice and light beating us

We believe at least 1 of the handicaps may have changed between games 2 and 3

Question - do we use original handicaps for the 3rd instalment, or current handicaps?

Not answering your question about handicap, but why did you not resume the match on another day rather than replaying it?

The committee should have specified what the tie break procedure is and if multiple rounds are involved, what the handicap situation is.

On the basis that the set procedure is to continue to a result (normal) if the match has to be stopped it should be resumed, not replayed.
Handicaps and strokes remain as they were when the match started.

These are the only options available to the committee.

Extending a Tied Match. If a match is tied after the final hole:
  • The match is extended one hole at a time until there is a winner. See Rule 5.1 (an extended match is a continuation of the same round, not a new round).
  • The holes are played in the same order as in the round, unless the Committee sets a different order.
But the Terms of the Competition may say that the match will end in a tie rather than be extended.

Thank you for your replies

Another Q if I may? If we agree to play the final instalment over 14 holes how do we adjust the handicaps?

I presume as we will play 77.78% of the round each handicap will be adjusted to 77.78% of the handicap, and the 10% taken from there. No doubt this is too simplistic though so keen to hear

Cheers!

It's even more simplistic - you use handicaps as normal; shots are taken at the holes as they would normally be.

The proportion of holes where shots are given/taken remains constant....but clearly the actual holes played will influence this. To avoid selectivity I would suggest that you either start at 1 and play 1-14 or start at 5 and play 5-18 (although to be honest I would start at 1 on a sudden death basis...

Thanks... so if player gets an extra shot on the 15th they essentially lose the advantage of the extra shot? Is that correct?

Yes.

But I think your committee are wrong. They are constrained to only approve the options in post #6.
So if the ties is to be resolved to produce a result, sudden death is the only way. See 3.2a(4)

Further, if a tied match is extended, handicap strokes are given by hole in the same way as in the round (unless the Committee sets a different way of doing so). See 3.2c(2)
