Hi,

I'm currently relocating from the North East, to the York/Selby area. And I'm looking to find some regular golf and a casual social society in the York/Selby/Leeds area.

I am currently a member of Tynemouth GC, and play frequently at Bamburgh castle GC. I have a society HC of 20 and shoot 85-90 (or 110 plus on the wrong day). I am currently the HC/Scores secretary of the society I play in.

I'm looking to join a group of golfers who don't take it (or themselves!) too seriously, for some weekend/evening games, and to join a new club in the area in the spring.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Andy

I'm in that area. I'm a member at Selby GC, and live near Goole, but knock around the same area you mention. Selby's a nice club, and I find all members friendly and approachable. Great course too !

What town are you moving to if you don't mind me asking ?

I'll be dropping anchor at may parents near Hambleton first off, so Selby is the closest club. I just had it in my head it was a bit stuffy and stuck up. Could be miles off the mark though.

Nah, Selby's fine. You get a few arrogant sods, but you do anywhere. There's a range & practice greens there, so it's a one-stop-shop really. Depends what takes your fancy :D.

Other clubs within reasonable distance, from memory there's Mid Yorkshire GC, & Boothferry GC. Not played either of them, so wouldn't know what to say :D

I'm a member at Drax GC, it's a cracking little course and for about £350 a year you can't go too wrong! We're also doing a 3 month 'taster' membership for £75 at the moment so you could have a look at that and if it's not your cup of tea then you're only £75 out!

Selby is a lovely course but I do agree that it's a little stuffy but definitely not unwelcoming and I'm sure there'd be plenty of people there to tag along with.

There is a great social golf scene at Drax with groups of lads meeting up most sat/sun mornings when there isn't a comp on and playing for a couple of quid.

Selby is an absolutely cracking course and the times I have played it not stuffy at all.

Travel a bit and go to Moor Allerton. Played there last Friday - outstanding course and coped with Thursday night's/ Friday morning's rain very well.
