I know I am a newbie and I hope you dont mind me getting involved.

The concept is a fantastic, but as has been said the distance issues could be a major problem for most of us with families.

I am hoping to get up to Ascot but that is around a 2 hour treck for the likes of myself any futher than that and its a struggle.

There are a few possibilties, the first thing to do would be see how many would be up for it, as it would need some form of commitment, that way we find out how many want to be involved from each region/county.

Then we put in place mini leagues by area and see who comes out on top, then top for each league moves foward to southern area finals and so on...

What are everyones thoughts??

I have played a lot of golf in lots of countys in the past but I have to say that Oxfordshire is not one of them.Every area has its share of great courses.

I think if a venue is found then a phone call to the Secretary on behalf of the GM Forum could get a deal for us.If we could get some sort of GM backing in vocal suppoort would help.

Say something like.
I am ringing on behalf of the Golf Monthly Forum and we would like to use your wonderful golf course and facilitys to host a get together/match.We have a party of X amount of players and require X amount of tee times on date X.
Could you give us a price and and information on any possible savings for our party

A official pre call from GM beforehand would be great if they would be good enough to do it.

It would have to be a 1 day thing for me,leave early, play, get back late.
I can drive and pick up anyone along my route as long as the diversion is not so great.

A NW v Scotland game would not require much travelling if a mid point course could be arranged.

A few points:

Alchemy - leave off Homer will you, that's my job....

Counties - don't leave out Middlesex please....

Golf Course - what about The Oxfordshire as a venue - J7 M40 must be fairly middle and is a proper golf course....

It amuses me when I read these kind of remarks. What size do you think Scotland is? It would take around 4 hours for someone to drive from say Inverness or Aberdeen to Carlisle, a distance of around 250 miles each way!
Somehow I don't think anyone from the SE of England would consider that! :D

I think we have some "Northern" NW members on here (like 2 hours north of the Manchester/Birmingham conurbations).

A trip from Perthshire to the Lakes (say) isn't that far. I think that was what was being said.

Even ignorant Londoners (like myself) know Scotland is WAY BIG North-South. Even Shropshire/N Wales to Edinburgh is too far for a half-way, unless you share drives.

North East guys are trying to put a team together in "arrange a game" for a North West derby game!!

N.E. are putting together a team? to play N.W.? Are they mad? Masochists - they really want to enjoy a thorough backside whipping?

Like the idea of county teams but gives me a bit of a problem. So far as I know I am the only forumer from Rutland so would have to defend the honour of the county on my own.

Certainly would look to get involved if the East Midlands wanted a team.

Interesting.

Not one of the guys who played Goswick has responded to this and I know a few have been on.

Let me be the first

I don't play competitive golf (Goswick aside and it wasn't exactly war on the shore)

The concept of meets, regional or whatever is great. Many have tried in the past and responses have been varied.

Teams of 8
Scottish boys always get a good response. Sorry boys, you've made the effort to attend (and because of other commitments, which everyone gets and some were genuinely unable to attend and were gutted) so the bulk of you guys are excluded.

SE generally get a good turn out and far exceed 8 but sorry boys some of you can't play.

Yorkshire boys (of which i'm one) struggle to get a meet together hence me joining in with the NW lads so that's me out and this is my personal thoughts BTW.

MW has a lot of posters and have a decent mix on occasions.
But sorry boys some of you can't play either.

Far north, Dodger, Imo, tonn et al, you can't raise 8 so you can't play either.

Logistically ther ISN't a course that would suit EVERYONE.
Where would you hold it?

No of posters? As someone has already stated. What right does someone have to attend of another forum member just because he has post X,000 posts. There are many members on here who have been around a long time, are well respected and have attended meets, Atticus springs to mind but sorry Atticus you can't play either.

I'll log in t'mora with a new name, post loads of Bolloxs and get my posting rate up to 500 in 2 weeks, because i've heard there is an event I can enter if I post loads and then I CAN PLAY.

I understand where you are coming from Alchemy and i'm not trying to have a pop at your idea or stifle your enthusiasm and input. BUT... any event must be available for anyone who contibutes to the forum regardless of how addicted to it. New or old.

I also think that folks missed out on the Goswick meet when it was taking place. Some who didn't put their names forward on it's inception because we had tried before and nothing had come off so probably felt it wouldn't this time. Some because they couldn't make it and some because they weren't on the forum at the time.

This type of event must be allowed to continue and develop.
