recommend me a phone... had mine nicked :(

Another vote for the S4 here. I had iPhones from day one and loved the phones. Hated iTunes tho. I was sceptical about the switch to andriod. Wish I had done it 2 years ago. Battery life is no better or worse than the iPhones but the samsung is so easy to setup and layout how I want it compared to my iPhone. Phone updates itself with no need to connect to laptop and have the latest version of iTunes installed that takes forever and day to do. Expand my memory for very little cost. Screen size is great for me as I am always watching videos and web browsing. It's not so noticeable until I pick up the missus iPhone but man how did I do it before :)

Gifgaf do some decent sim only deals as do tesco I believe. I'm on contract with three and they have been brilliant. I was with O2 for a good 10 years previous. I get unlimited 4g and tethering and can use my uk data plan in other countries. This was a god send when we was in New York over New Years.

Ive ve also had a couple of drops with my S4 and it's not in a case and has not (touch wood) had any damage as a result. Nothing heavy. Just when the little terrors are round and I don't see them pick it up:o
 
You don't need to connect your I phone to a pc to update it ?
 
its either gonna be a note 3 or the new xperia z1... was also looking at the z1 ultra but its massive :p

I use my phone for email, browsing, sat nav and videos so do like a bigger screen. As regards iphones, I am sure the screens are made from sugar glass, another reason I wont have one.

I use my phone for exactly the same things, and also have a hate for Apple products after many iPhones. I ended up going with Windows got the Nokia Lumia 920 and when my upgrade is due I'll simply move to the latest model of the same OS. The apps are fast growing, the camera is better than any smart phone out there including 5s which I know as the Mrs has one! And the Nokia Smart Drive sat nav is miles better than even my fully up to date work Tom Tom. The other little gimmick I like is wireless charging, I put it on the pad by the bed and it charges up with out the need for fiddly leads

My renewal will be due soonish and I was thinking about the note but rumors are the S5 is due at April sometime :confused: . Dunno what to do
 
My Blackberry bold 9900 is due upgrading and I'm not going to, I refuse to be drawn into another costly contract when I use about fifteen quid a month.
 
With the recent changes to the flow chart regarding smartphones used as DMD and being a golfer I'd personally take this into consideration when getting a new phone and make the most of cheap DMD apps.

Wouldn't be surprised in the slightest to see Skycaddie offer a subscription based app along side the regular GPS units which allows access to all their GPS features and high quality mapping.

This removes the higher end Samsungs from my radar and I will probably avoid them when I upgrade (currently have an S4).

Purely looking at what is available in the higher end of the market (and your budget) I'd personally go with the Sony Xperia Z1.

The water proofing, big full hd screen with good brightness, powerful cpu, expandable memory which has thankfully moved to microsd and away from proprietary solutions. It ticks a lot of boxes. It's a great phone and would be ideal doubling up as a DMD.

The HTC ONE is another beautiful phone but the lack of expandable memory ruins it for me.

Worth checking out some of the options from Huwaei as well if you want a good spec for a lower cost. The Ascend p6 is a very nice piece of hardware and the company is breaking ground in western markets. Definitely worth keeping an eye on. I have one of their cheap handsets and now use it as a DMD (cost £50). Quality of it is surprisingly good for the money with a solid metal unibody type design!

I agree. Had numerous brands over the years including Nokia and Samsung smart phones, but the iphone is by far the smartest and easiest to use. I know Apple take the proverbial sometimes, but they do it for me. The syncing ability across the devices is also very clever and useful.
 
the z1 is indeed a great phone Bob, was demoing it yesterday and the screen quality is awesome.

I am going to use my 3gs for now until I decide as the lass in the 3 store told me the s5 and possible a new sony model is due out soon aswell as a new htc model!

Just carry on as you are then sign up for a new contract when it comes out. you are not under any obligation to take a new handset/contract the moment the old one expires, its the temptation you need to resist!!:lol:
 
I am an iPhone user. I have had pretty much every model so far, although still on the 5, not the 5S or 5C.

I like iTunes too and have a lot less trouble with it than most of the Windows programmes I use on my work PC.

And if you are someone who loses/has nicked the phone, the iPhone is a breeze to lock remotely and to locate using the GPS.
 
right, crime ref sorted, claiming on insurance, new for old so looks like a note3, will actually save me money so they have done me a favour as when I renew in June it will be sim only for £15 a month... every cloud :)
