recommend a new driver for 20 handicapper

To echo this point further on lessons.

I bought a Taylor Made Draw R7 Utility and after a series of tips on here and from various other people this is now at bay (hopefully!). So, my irons, wedges, woods etc are all straight but my utility does exactly what it says on the tin DRAWS!

However having said that, all that means is dont go and buy and offset driver. The BenSayers Benny that Smiffy has put the link to is a fantastic deal and if I didnt already have two drivers I would be going for this.

I played with a fade when I was fitted with my driver so went for a draw bias, I then hit it straightish for months.

Now I hit a natural draw mostly and the fact that its draw bias doesn't really hinder me too much. As i said in a previous post, half degree heads (tour heads) sit less closed than normal. Even neutral drivers sit closed slightly.

If I aim to play a straight shot and dont get it quite right, at worst I will probably fade it slightly, 1) because of the bias and 2) cause I am in to out.

What I dont find though is that I have major problems over drawing. If I do have a problem going to the left its because I have out and out pulled it.

Lessons is a must in the situation of the OP.

any one have a ny recomendations? I have a cobra speed ld f at the moment but looking to change as i have lost my confidence in it, bought it second hand so i have had my moneys worth out of it. natural shot is a slice!! any suggestions?

I see so many of these threads, not only here but on other forums. The only advice I can give is go and try as many as you can and buy the one that is best suited to your game, be it a £250 driver or a £50 one, there is no point buying on what other people think, its you that has to use it and if you buy by brand rather than what best suits I guarantee within 5 months you will be looking for a new driver!!

So pop down to AG, DG or your local pro shop and hit as many as you can until you find the right one, its a little like marriage, well unless arranged which asking other people to do is

I doubt a new driver will sort your slice out. I found the main reason i went throught the slice mode was because i was standing too far away from the ball at address. Try standing bolt upright holding the club out in front horizontally and then bending forward from the hips till the club head touches the ground and that is how far back you should be standing.

for an idea of what i am talking about. This site has helped me loads to get the basics right without paying for lessons. I am not saying leesons are not good but read this and go the range and see what happens first.

simple - LESSON!

after spending about £300 on two drivers (Nike, now G5) i bit the bullet and have gone back for lessons to cure my massive slice (which was consistent so i could live with it but was losing a lot of distance).
finally started shaping it left last night and very happy - hitting a few off the toe and balooning the odd one but am confident it'll sort itself with some hard work down the range now.

if you do want to buy one i'd recommend the G5, i hit it sweetly out of the middle of the face regardless of the slice and am considering upgrading to a Titleist D1 or Callaway ft.

Spend it on lessons as I dont see anything wrong with what you have.

If its worn or you feel you must change , do it with the guidance of a pro.

Have to agree with the comments about getting some lessons before you part with your hard earned.

I had a horrible "power fade " and was about to bin my driver and revert to 3 woods and accept a loss of distance (but a better direction!). Then someone on the forum suggested I take some lessons.

After these and ongoing practice, all is well with the driver I have, and probably saved £200 into the bargain (which went on irons instead - ho hum!)
