Furthest away on the 2nd and 3rd etc shots go first.
Best for safety.
I love going first off the tee,it shows im playing better than my partners.

ok so im 25yards ahead of you in the trees but no option but to play sideways , cant make the green .. ur in the middle of the fairway within range of the green , would you expect me to wait ? or play out on to the fairway & have it done .. if we can both make the green play in turn unless you are removing wet gear or something & are delayed .. playing out of turn wont delay anyone , as for playing first showing im playin better , i know how im playing & dont care if im 1st 2nd or 3rd away ..
But as per Aztecs comment only if everyone in the group agrees , if playing with strangers i will say , "not one for honours lads if your ready bang away" but if some one says they wana go in honour order thats fine aswell ..

Trouble is I can apply that analogy to almost any issue that reportedly effects pace of play. Marking scorecard on green, leaving clubs on wrong side of green, too many practice swings etc etc can all be answered with Just walk quicker between shots!

Walking quicker does solve everything. Marking the card is only done 18 times, but I bet you walk more than 7000 yards.
Some one who walks quickly will get to their ball quicker, and have more time for pre shot routines, club selection, etc.
Walking slowly is by far the biggest time waster.

Sorry Murph but I've got to disagree with you to some extent.
OK it's fine to walk quicker up to your ball (provided you are not in danger of being hit by one of your fellow competitors from behind you), but it's those idiots who wait until it's their turn to play before assessing the shot, selecting the club, putting glove on, taking half a dozen practice swings that never look anything like the actual shot etc, that are a major contributor to slow play. Apart from and linked to that, one of the biggest time wasters is simply waiting for others to play.
If all players in a 4 ball took just 15 secs less on every shot, that would equate to over an hour, possibly and hour and a half, saved. The problem is though that the whole field would have to spend 15 secs less per shot or it's a waste of time, so to speak. OK you can be called through group after group (yeh! Right!) but all that does is delay the whole field behind by 5 - 10 minutes every time.
Oh, and whoever it was who said that matchplay isn't real golf, you are having a laugh aren't you. It's probably the only form of golf that makes it a "sport". i.e. One competitor in combat against another and not against the course.

Saturday morning roll up and we'll go in whoever is ready first order on the tee and for the second shots. Its about the laugh and to be honest with the course pretty busy there isn't anywhere to go either. In a comp I tend to stick to the honour system unless someone specifically asks me to play. Jst feel it is the done thing and again the field isn't going to be rushing and so as long as we are moving at a decent pace and those in front and behind are spaced then I don't see the issue.
