Was chatting with my friends 2 young lads who are just getting into golf about the different formats/games that are played.

We were discussing foursomes and one of them asked if a player was to have an air shot off the tee would their partner be allowed to adjust the tee (height he was talking about but position as well) or would they have to play it as it was?

I imagine it would be the same as if the tee shot was put out of bounds and you can re-tee it.

Edit: Rule 6.2b(6) says you can re-tee the ball. Same rules as per singles.

(6) When Ball in Play Lies in Teeing Area. If the player’s ball in play is in the teeing area after a stroke (such as a teed ball after a stroke that missed the ball) or after taking relief, the player may:
  • Lift or move the ball without penalty (see Rule 9.4b, Exception 1), and
  • Play that ball or another ball from anywhere in the teeing area from a tee or the ground under (2), including playing the ball as it lies.

Even if the first player hit the ball, but it only rolled off the tee (and remained within the teeing area, i.e. in line with the tee pegs, up to 2 club lengths behind that line), the second player could re-tee the ball in the teeing area and play Shot 2. Just like an individual could do in singles.

I have a mate who purposely tees up behind the tee pegs, so if this happens to him he can re-tee it. He is proud of himself for knowing that rule, although I do suggest to him that his pride should be cancelled out by the shame that he thinks that such a tactic could ever be a benefit to him. I doubt many professionals tee up further back in case there is a potential for them to ever take advantage of re-teeing for shot 2 :ROFLMAO:
