RBZ death knell for the amateur driver?

If I was hitting my 3W past their drivers I wouldn't really care - however in this case I'm sceptical

I think thats the only way id ever buy one, if they was really good and i was out playing the people i play with, then there comments wouldnt matter as much

my cousin plays only the 3 wood off the tee and is in single figures. if your straight and long enough with the three wood then it makes sense to get rid of the driver which gets a lot of people into trouble. its a man thing though to want to hit a driver. its just really satisfying for about a second till you see if slice/hook!

Anyone good player at golf gotta be using the driver, 3wood for me goes miles but the driver goes longer
of course sometimes playing the right shot from the tee important, Course managment,

If i'm playing a short course I wont even bother putting the driver in my bag as the Burner Superfast TP 3 wood I have goes along way and is more than enough club.

If the RBZ goes long like they say then it does seem sensible, although when your coming up against a 7000yard setup you will need a driver for those extra yards even if its 10-15.

Ash!!

how much more are you going to hit it? 10-15 yards ? thats an extra club in. the driver is not necessary imo. in saying that ive been know to march around the course like an clown with two in the bag!

I know some people struggle with their drivers, but by and large, can't really see why you'd want to give up the biggest and potentially most forgiving club in your bag in favour of a much smaller-headed club? I always like to have at least one club in the bag I feel I might be able to at least make contact with on the 1st tee if I've rushed straight from the car with no warm-up whatsoever!

I hear what you are saying Jezz (and having checked out the i20 wood range today...). The thing about my thinking is that my course is really short. I also start on a long par 3, then a tight par 5, then another par 3, then a tight par 4 so you only really get to open your shoulders on the 5th. I do find a 460cc head reassuring but on most of our par 4s a decent hit puts me in partial swing territory where I am neither proficient or competent. So from a personal perspective getting comfortable hitting a fairway wood, boosting accuracy and leaving full distances seems preferable. From a wider perspective lots of high handicaps hit their 3 wood for safety. If it now goes as far as your driver why carry one at all?

And tsk tsk for being late for your round and not warming up. You'll do yourself an injury ;)

Have to go along with Tiger on this one. Strange really as I don't carry a 3 wood. The only club I find near impossible to hit. For me it goes to high off the tee and you can forget off the fairway(unless you want a laugh).

As far as I'm concerned its a load of old TOSH. Having tried the RBZ timber its not any longer as the 910 currently in my bag. FACT.

As for the driver it launches like a 7 iron, again not for me. Although my experience of TM in general is that they balloon. I'd need a seriously good custom fit to be able to use a TM driver successfully.
You did try out the right handed clubs yes? just making sure. ;)

My 3 wood far more a go to club than the driver for me, feel more confident with the smaller head and the distance gap isnt massive, in summer I happily hit 3 wood almost everywhere (and hybrid in a lot of places) rather than driver, that said some days its nice to hit driver pretty much everywhere :) (and anywhere lol)

I hit the RBZ 3 wood at AG and, although it was good, it wasn't 17 yards better than anything else.
I was hitting a 910 Fd a very similar distance and my 4 wood wasn't far behind either. I've also hit RickG's RBZ on a range - good but not "I've got to rush out and buy it" good.
This "gain 17 yards" is what Dustin Johnson did. A top Tour Pro with a great swing, high swing speed and great technique.
Generally, we have none of those things.
You may get a few extra yards from it but I doubt many will get anywhere near 17 yards more.

Having said that, the RBZ 3 wood head is huge compared to most others (197cc to i20's 141cc or R11s 155) so is like a mini driver anyway and with a 43.5 inch shaft it isn't much shorter.

this is interesting, i would like to see the RBZ 3w tested against some of the shorter drivers to see the distance gaps.

I can understand the principle on the thinking regarding the original poster, maybe a 3w and 5w would be enough, would you really need a 7w too.

i bought the 10.5 driver not to gain distance but to be more controlled than my current driver. the RBZ driver doesnt have the slot like the fairway woods. i also took the 3 wood high loft at 17 degrees as my previous 5 wood and 3 wood were similar. ive only been on the course twice with them, will probably take to the summer before i can really compare distances . i didnt buy them for extra distance but a more controlled flight, which i got even with the stock shafts excon 5. im happy and very surprised at myself going white

if your handicap is high, and your driver causes you all sorts of woe, get the shaft cut down or grip down, or get lessons, buying a rocketballz 3wood is a joke not an answer.

seriously, this could be a total pisstake if i didnt know better.

now dont get me wrong, if you are a good player(which im not) then certainly if you can hit a 3wood as well or better than a driver and your course is short then maybe this is a good alternative.

but for a high H/c ? its a joke of the most original kind.

Ive hit the RBZ 3 wood, but NOT the driver.......
And for me , ( I do say Me ) it was PANTS.........:(
Couldnt get away with it at all
Shaft is too Long, and Too Light, had no feeling of where the Clubhead was at any point in my swing
On the same day, I tried the R11s 3 wood too, it was Different CLASS
Better feel, better weight in shaft, tighter dispersion, and for ME , it was LONGER than the RBZ

Ive a feeling the driver will be the same, as I had similar results with last years TM Superfast Burner
But I have heard good things about the RBZ TOUR driver............

I have just brought Driver , 3 Wood and 5 Wood All regular shaft i am playing with them tomorrow for the first time so i will let you know how i get on with them

Is that same Mark Timms - ex captain of the fabled Ascot heath, single figure handicapper and all round decent fellow? Did you get the clubs via Ali and how are you finding them
