i'm a 9-5 office prisoner (posting from my desk just now!) :D and aside from weekend games, im limited during the week to evening range sessions or in the summer months 9 holes on my lonesome.

What do you think is the best form of practice? I cant decide what is the best method moving forward and progressing

If I have time for it I always prefer the course. It's simply nicer and better hitting off grass and tees than range mats and those chunky rubber tees. I go to the range as well, in the mid-week say, when I wouldn't have time to do nine holes (I only get home at about 6:45 most days). But if I had a good 2 hours of daylight and it was one or the other I'd far rather get 9 holes in.

In the summer you can easily get 18 in :)
I recommend splitting the time up between your game - Monday putting Tuesday long irons Wednesday short irons Thursday short game Friday 9 holes.
Obviously that's an example - not every one can go every night. But say 1 1/2 45 minutes spend on certain parts of the game.

One night use the 9 holes as a marker of improvement.

Im the same - i get home about 6ish most nights and need something to eat during the evening.

Im thinking im going to try weekly to get 1 evening session at the range and 1 evening 9holes. The next 3weekends are fully booked for my so i wont actually be playing a full 18 for a while...ive been making some good progress recently so want to try and keep it up

Yeah once we get to summer, I can get out of work early on a Friday and fit 9 holes in then. Nothing better than doing that followed by a pint or two as the sun goes down. :D

Weather allowing I play 9 holes after work on Tuesdays (on my own or with whoever else shows up) and go for a bit of evening practice on Thursdays or Fridays. I both of it. Makes the workweek appear much shorter.

I'm a 9-holer. Never got into the swing of range practice and I like to get onto the course whenever I can as I can't get on as often as I'd like. Besides - I am fortunate to be a member of a lovely scenic track and I enjoy the walk as much as playing.

9 Holes. If it's quiet, I sometimes even play 2 balls for 6 holes, and maybe not even putt at all. I find mats (teeing up aside) doesn't really do anything for me.

Yup - often play two balls and usually don't bother too much with the putting - only if I've got a birdie on or have an unusual putt.

i am a firm believer in playing golf to get better at golf. hitting balls has its place, esp if you are working on something.

if i go for a few holes at night i always play worst ball and don't bother putting if i'm in a hurry. if there are other groups in front and in no rush i have a putt from different angles and hit from Bunkers etc.

New course I am at has the practice facility in the middle of the course. So I can easily play my way round to it, 1-4 do some practice and then slot my way back in to the course and play 5-9 and back to the clubhouse.

Works so far as it's rarely busy in the evenings just now.

unless you are working on something particular 9 holes every time for me.

Would people's views change if the choice was a grass range and a academy type short course/short game practice area (a mix of holes up to 90 yards) or a few holes on the main course. Thats my choice maybe once or twice a week.

I like playing the course but realise I can hit far more shots in the limited time on the practice area, rather than spending my time walking between shots.

Nether, I barely have enough free time to play 18 at the par 3 more than once every other week.

I do hit the range on my lunch break 1-2 times a week

Time on the course. I use to spend a lot of time on the practice ground. I need (and should have) to get out and learn to make a score. It's something I can't do when under pressure. I'm hoping it'll also improve the short game
