Range Balls

I think you lose something like 20-30% yards.

If they made them exactly like course balls would you buy a pack of prov's for 40 quid, or a bucket of 100 range balls for 5!

Range balls are usually two piece balls that are left out freezing all night and have been hit 100's if not 1000's of times. Have always worked on the premise that you can get an extra 10 - 20 % yardage out of a "normal ball".

If they're brand new range balls then you'll see a 15-20% drop off in distance but as they get older the difference gets bigger!

I think it depends on the compression of the range balls, apparentley a lot of them have lower compression for less distance, to stop you hitting them over the fence. Best to ask at the range what sort of balls they're using

10 yards with a 7 iron.
20 yards with a driver.
1 yard with a lob wedge.

i've read a few pages about this and it seems anything from 10-15% tardage loss is the norm.

when i go to the range i don't worry much about how far they are going i just like the fact i'm hitting plenty balls and keeping myself fresh especially over the winter months.

I use Maidenhead Golf Centre and they have decent quality Srixon range balls. Two piece affairs but very good condition and I would say they go about 10% shorter than the Z Star, Pro V's etc I use
