Rain please...

Looks like there's going to be a serious amout of rain heading south of London region in the next day or so according to BBC weather this morning.

Big rain coming to Berkshire tomorrow. Ideal for club champs as it'll take the sting out of the greens. Heavy showers due Sunday after lunch when the leaders in the champs are going out. Could be interesting

Trouble is, the ground is so hard much of the rain will just flow straight into the drains and ditches.
It won't sink deep enough in to soften things up much.
We had a huge water leak on our 3rd hole recently. Thousands of gallons, I suspect, seeped into an area the size of 2 large greens and it was like a marsh.
2 weeks on and its as rock hard as the rest of the course.
Doubt we'll play tomorrow, supposed to be lashing down from dawn to dusk.....

I haven't played golf for two weeks. Been too busy with work, family visiting, the Open and all that. First chance to play again tomorrow and the weather forecast is heavy rain and hail. Hail!?

This year's weather has been a complete disaster up here. It took months for anything to start growing, we had 1 week of good weather in April and we jokingly called that summer! Oh how we laughed, because May and June went by incessantly windy and dry. Still lacking growth in June it eventually started to turn and for the last 4 weeks it's just been cold, sunny, with heavy showers and more wind. As you've probably seen from watching the Open.

I've only had to mow my lawns 4 times in total so far this year. Last year I was cutting them twice every week. It's utterly miserable. I need a hug.

Sodding weather forecasters!!!!!
Biblical rain forecast from 6am today
It's just started a light drizzle.....
Should be on the 7th by now.....
Going to be grumpy all day now!

The OP needs therapy for wanting rain, get on to your club for better sprinklers to be installed and use more water at the right time, I've seen sprinklers come on too early at a previous club when the sun is still fully out, complete waste of time that IMO!

Green keepers should be applying wetting agents and liquid organic feeds in the mornings to your greens, fairways, tees & aprons.

Packing waterproofs for tomorrow now

And how do you expect all this to be paid for at certain clubs

Well thank you for this thread. Until this it has been glorious round here. Now it has rained pretty much every day, it is lashing it down now and it is now looking too good for the medal tomorrow. Bring back the parched fairways and burnt back rough.

Happily chucking it down here in Suffolk. Need it badly to ease the scorched fairways. Due to stop in time for my 4.00pm tee off tomorrow so greens should be A1. :whoo: (I do sympathise with our northern golfers though. Waterlogged fairways in July after waiting all winter is pants :()

ahem....op here....

Actually turned out not as bad as forecast here - managed 15 in steady but light rain. Now steadier and heavier. Actually the best it could have been - steady rain over a long period that will hopefully have soaked in a bit and not caused any damage through flash flooding etc.

The course will be looking and playing perfect next week. Unfortunately I will be on the Cote d'Azur....

Hopefully there'll be a few top-ups before my return.

Genuinely surprised to see some of the those rain filled bunkers. I had no idea that it had been so wet elsewhere.

It's been lashing down here in Hampshire all day, even Blackmoor is going to struggle to cope with this deluge and it isn't forecast to stop until the early hours of tomorrow. We needed rain but not this much!

Where in Suffolk are you based?
