question for the GM Technical team, (The other one)

There is a difference between a bushnell and a cheaper laser. I've owned both, the Hillman fell apart after 12 months, the bushnell didn't. End of thread !!!

As a kid the other kids wanted black addidas Samba trainers, i got a 1 pair then did not want them, i only wore black after this, as black trainers for me meant i did not get them dirty and cost 15quid v 50.. its my mentality perhaps but for rangefinders where there is NO performance benefit in paying more, this product must have a market.

I'm slightly in the middle, I preferred Adidas Bamba, which weren't as popular, but looked miles better, and were cheaper.

I've got a Nikon rangefinder, which is a middle of the road price, but had very good reviews. I also bought it 2nd hand on ebay for about 60% of the new price, so feel I got the best of both worlds.

I have also owned a Hillman and for the price it was a very good product, I sold it on the Forum a few months ago and as far as I'm aware, it's still going strong.
BUT you cannot compare the Hillman to the Bushnell V2 that replaced it, it is more compact, fits in the hand easier, optics are better, battery changing is easy, battery life seems much longer, it's a tad quicker , yes it gives the same numbers , but it is a better product overall hence a higher price.

Now I draw the line at paying the best part of £300 for a top range laser , but that's the same reason why I don't drive a Ferrari

You were lucky, Nic. Mine couldn't measure to anything except the sides of BIIIIG buildings - absolutely worthless.
I did buy it using exactly the reasoning put forward by the OP i.e. why pay more? but in the end chalked it up to experience and went and got a Bushnell. That hasn't let me down once and is still on it's very first battery after almost 3 years!

NOW - END OF THREAD!

Booooom!!

You pay for what you get. My Hillman measured ok. It was a yard different from the bushnell. That yard could be crucial!!

Then the lenses broke, fell out & I lost it.

Some interesting views on this topic. The cheaper brands can be every bit as good. For instance. I have a £65 pair of Puma golf shoes that are more comfortable, more waterproof and nowhere near as smelly at my Ecco all singing all dancing shoes. The same £65 Puma's are also more waterproof than my Dryjoys ever were.

Laser, can't comment as I've only tried a few but rely on my GPS which is more than adequate for club golfers.

If anyone cares, I no longer use a laser. I lost the bushnell!!! But it was still fully functional when lost.

I bet it's still going strong for the knob that didn't hand it in.

I reckon using a DMD is cheating  me & my buddy SILH.

Interesting how the yard difference is not both lasers being half a yard out or the Bushnell being a yard out, the instant assumption, without knowing is that the cheaper one is wrong.. This is Trackman syndrome where any number trackman give is taken as fact

If you arent bothered by the quality then go for the cheaper one .

In most cases in all walks of life buy cheap buy twice they say.

It was a fact. I measured both, bushnell and Hillman, over 150 yards. To triple check, I paced it out and then got my mate, who works for NASA, to divert one of their military grade satellites. He confirmed, as did the length of my stride, the Hillman was wrong and therefore a cheap POS.

The bushnell also looked prettier!!!

Bushnell sounds sexier :o, where as a Hillman reminds me of my dads old car. End of thread ?;)

I had a cheap pair of Adidas football boots that lasted 5 years. They looked exactly like the did the day I got them. The only thing that prompted me to buy a new pair was the insole was starting to wear.

I am in the process of returning a pair of Adidas copa Mundial. The stitching has come away on one of the stripes and the sole is coming off the front of both boots. Worn about 7 times .

More than twice the price from the same company yet the quality is worlds apart.

You don't always get what you pay for but this is a rare case.
