question for the GM Technical team, (The other one)

The one in the for sale section?

If so, you need to have 100 posts before posting in there to prevent noobs just punting stuff and not hanging about, potential dodgy dealings etc.. have a look at the sticky at the top of the FS section.

PS. you could PM the OP...

PPS. I am not a mod or a tech!

I just wanted to ask
WHY do people buy BRANDED lasers, they are all basically the same, i do not own one but cannot see why you would pay more for one that says whatever brand v a no name that is made in the same building

I get that there is a perception that certain club companies are great at making clubs, i would argue their talent is actually in marketing and sales but that is another thread.

but for a laser, a laser is a laser is a laser, does not matter if it says bushnell or bigbush on the side, its going to be the same

you are clearly not technical as all lasers are not equal. Are all cars/clubs equal.

Different branded lasers aren't all the same

I buy Nikon as I have Nikon cameras. They make great optics and I trust them. Others will have their own reasons for buying other brands. You definitely get what you pay for where optical equipment is concerned. In my experience of course.

You tend to pay for better/clearer optics and features such as jolt, slope or pinseeker but thats about it really. Sometimes a higher magnification on more expensive ones as well.

So what factual info do you have that suggest i should pay double for a nikon v a no name, the laser is the same, unless you know something i do not

The lenses in the devices are the difference in the quality - same as paying more for better lenses in glasses plus added features

You are assuming the quality is better, do you KNOW this for a fact or is simply an assumption because a brand is big and asks for more money.

Magnification, how much extra is that worth, what level are you talking about x 6 v x12 how much more value

Unless made of magic, a laser is a laser and will tell you a number...

Same applies to ANY consumer product - TV, computer, Trainers, Polos, Suits, Ketchup, Cola, Airline tickets etc! And 'premium' Golf Balls too!

In the case of Lasers, Bushnell, Nikon (and maybe Leupold) are the recognised brand leaders, so can charge more for the 'comfort' that gives.

In Golf clubs, the likes of Orka cannot charge the same as mainstream OEMs, even though their service is likely to be considerably better! And if you REALLY want the classic golfing anomoly, how Scotty Cameron can cost the amount they do for virtually the same product is beyond my comprehension!

As for Lasers, there's also the confidence factor that it's not going to fall apart from poor build quality or, if it does go wrong (after the warranty period), there is a simple way of getting it fixed!

Btw. Why ask the Mods/Tech team this?

By testing a number of lasers and seeing the clear difference and sharpness of the higher end ones plus how quickly it picks up the flag , how they can still pickup the flag in fading light

Just trying to understand WHY the CONSUMER would pay more for a device that will show the EXACT same number as something at half the price.

I know how branding works, i am asking the CONSUMERS why they pay it!

The bold bit seems to be self-contradictory!

And if it's really consumers you are asking, why ask 'the Mods or GM Tech Team'?

I like how it feels in my hands, the weight gives me confidence and trust in the workmanship, and I really like the colour!

Also from Phil too

Both replies make some sense as to why you would pick a branded v non, which was all i was trying to find out based on a laser being a laser
