Question for SLDR owners

I haven't tried hitting the ball with the shaft. Maybe that's where I'm going wrong.
Seriously though, it's all about finding the middle of the club face and I'm quite certain that your grip and swing path takes care (or ruin, in my case) of that. You can talk about kick points, torque, weight and flex all you want but it's essentially a plastic tube- there's only so much that it can do.

HOWEVER, I'm happy to be proven wrong.

Plastic? Are you using one of these bad boys?

Surely that is a little chicken Vs Egg no? should it not be Strike + shaft + Head = holy grail.

viruocity put it more eloquently, hit the middle of the club face every time and the rest makes little difference. But if only it was that easy.....

when I tried it, it ballooned and launched far too high, that was even at 9.5* then tweaked down further.

My Titleist 905R with totally inappropriate shaft for me launches with a penetrating flight but loses distance as no run on these really soft fairways.

only goes how show how subjective these things are.

early days with mine, but overall I seem to get a slightly higher launch but the same overall trajectory that I did with my 9.5.

and it's 12 degrees.

at some point I will run direct comparisons with various models I have in the shed - with a range of shafts.

biggest driver (no pun intended) was that I will retain the SLDR mini 16 but wanted a matching driver - the mini works really well but there are times I found myself wanting just a little more; as I anticipate about 80/20 in favour of the mini it made sense to get a driver to match rather than the other way round (which I used to do)

Brand loyalty and maybe shaft preference aside, I can't see any logic in matching Driver and mini! Though it's certainly likely the brand's offering would be a candidate, whichever club/brand was the 'baseline'.

Best I've ever hit a driver. But you must get the right shaft. My problem was a very high launch with lots of backspin. The Black Tie shaft brought the launch down and, fitted to the SLDR, gave a big reduction in spin. It now launches as high as I want it to, set to 10.5° or 9.5°, and just soars through the air, even against the wind.

With the standard stock shaft it was just another high launching, high spinning driver. The head & shaft combination is the key.

Just goes to show that it's horses for courses as the stock shaft in mines gave me the best results.

Before the loft up campaign came about i bought an R9 super tri 11.5 degree. Best driver ive had. I hit quite a low ball, the extra loft certainly gave me more confidence. Regretted getting rid of it until i got the sldr mini driver. Great piece of kit. Sacrificed distance for accuracy. Well worth it though.

my logic is that they look the same, set up similar, have the same shaft and feel - they just go different distances :)

when I stand on the tee I choose the club I want for the distance I wish to (try and) hit it - just as on the fairway

If that gives you confidence, then fine! But as I posted, there's no real reason why the same brand will work better than a mix of brands. There's similar 'logic' in liking/not liking the colour, sound, shape or Open/Closed look of the head - at least after a bit of use. Certainly agree that having the same shaft is likely to be an advantage though - as long as it is 'the same'!

I have to agree with Duncan, I have a matched amp driver and 3w both with motore f1 65g, they play like an identical club, just go about 20 yards different

I'm currently on the look out for a 430 head. I have a black tie 7M3 shaft that I'm wanting to try in it. Anyone know the difference between the 6M3 and 7M3?

I went from the R1 to the SLDR

Improvements - distance , dispersion and ball flight

Get around an extra 10-20 yards with it

Dispersion is a lot tighter

Ball flight was a low cut with the R1 with the SLDR it's mainly a nice gently draw

Best driver I have had and was the best club choice I made last year

I have the stock speeder shaft

I think the difference is about 10 grams - 6M3 will be around 60g ish...7M3 around 70g.

I got a 430 head - It does look good...but then i haven't looked at a 460. There are a handful on eBay. Might still be able to find a new one - most places have them at £199 now.

Thanks, should a heavier shaft generally launch the ball abit lower? any other differences you might see.

I'm think I'm going to give SLDR a try if the course is closed tomorrow and see if there's much improvement over my current driver.

Got an email from Direct Golf today saying extra 20% of sale items in store, currently showing as £200 on the website so may be down to £160 if the same price in the shop.

I also have the stock shaft, feels good to me too.

Just got a 3 wood off eBay too... anyone else use the 3 wood - does it have similar low spin characteristics like the driver?

No idea to be honest - i would assume being very slightly heavier it may slow swing speeds down, but make it a little more controllable... I could be way off though, sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong.

I had a 7M3 in an Optiforce 4 wood a while back, tis a nice shaft.

I have the 3 wood, yes similar characteristics, I have a low launch shaft in it and get a lowish ball flight, expect that its more the shaft than the head but the combination works well for me

I was in DG last week in Cambridge and i'm sure they were £199 in there, must have been about 15 or so left on the stand.
