I really like the analogy about how hard you would look for a players ball a few pages back when it was suggested that it might be half hearted i.e missing cup final ticket, misplaced mobile.......so on a scale of 1-10 how hard do you look for another players ball? And is there really folk who would go cup final ticket style 100% of the time? (No-one has ever put that much effort into looking for one of my errant shots!) & I'm grateful for all the help I can get & offer same assitance (but not to a 10)
Also a little surprised by the few posts that indicated the etiquette of searching for another players ball would be extended only as long as its reciprocated, surely that just means....well you can guess what it means!
Given that answers to the above will vary (as it must) then isn't it just semantics on how hard, long you look for an oppo's ball and from what distance, how much energy etc & god help the other player if they don't measure up to your standard of search because your own efforts will reduce to match theirs (assuming then that they have the same moral compass, then by the 18th you'd both walk past the wedge the other had left greenside and not say a word!!)

There's a Senior's Open on the 15th May but I don't qualify for that yet... and there's a 4BBB Open on Sunday 1st July.

It may not be the be all and end all of your free time, but you apparently have little else to do if you have time to come on here and "ruffle a few feathers". If you do indeed play the game in the right way, what exactly did you think the reaction would be when you come on a golf forum and say you don't look for balls? Wind up or not, you got exactly the reaction you deserved - perhaps you should think about your comments

If they have hit it in thick heavy goarse or thick heavy bushes, I doubt I'd help look especially if they haven't played a provisional when it clearly obvious they should have. It's obviously going to be difficult to find, that's if you even want to find it. If they hit it in the rough or trees I'll help no problem.

Bloody hell Papyt, I was beginning to feel a bit sorry for you there. Now I feel cheated out of an internet style strop of epic proportions. A Timgolfy style walk off, with not even a look back. I love forum strops like that. The Mizuno forum has had 2 in the last week.
On an unrelated note, I played your course last week. Picked a bad day for it though as it was a bit flooded. Nice course, not too penal (I played shocking but still knobbed it round in 78 blows), the 2 new holes will be nice when the grass grows, but with only 1 par 5 and the 18th is a nonsense of a hole (5 iron to the dogleg, then a wedge flick to the green). The shop is good though, and a tour edge fitter as well. Can't see myself joining though as for the life of me I can't see the reason for the 1k joining fee. I can join Arley (Wigan golf club) for that, and play with Dave Whelan again....

I often find that I do better watching their ball disappear into the mire, than I do my own. I don't have the same distraction of feeling like an eejit as it flies over the 3rd tree from the right.
So I often need their help finding my sliced doodads.
I expect help, so I always give it where I can.

not in the best nick at present,the two new "muni" holes were built by the water board so are not the best,the original 16 and 17 make the course a lot tougher and cant wait for them to be re-opened,did you see the proposed lay out for the alterations ( hence tree felling) going to lose two par 3 but gain a par 4 and a 5, its a good members club and has plenty of atmosphere and to be honest the £1000 is a throw back to past glory days and they now let you pay over a couple of years the one good thing or bad depends on your outlook not to many leave,if you fancy a knock when the course is fully open give me a call and we will sort it out,ps did the pro treat you ok??????

Didn't see the proposed alterations as we had to get away as soon as the round finished. I did notice a lot of work going on round near the motorway side of the course. The Pro was great with us, as were the members we spoke to. It was really quiet though, probably due to the deluge that morning. The puddles soon cleared though when the sun came out. I had a quick look at the old 16th and 17th, and the yardage they provide was necessary in my opinion.
I'll take you up on that knock when the original holes reopen. I'd like to see the course as it should be played..
