Is it an infringment of the rules to hold the flag in one hand while tapping in your ball with your putter in the other?

I was told many years ago during a round with the Captain of a club I was at then that it was against the rules. But last week a chap I played with did this in a competition, I didn't say anything but it brought back what that captain had said.

Any ideas on this from you wise chaps ?

And since birdieman posted whilst I was typing - its decision 17-1/5 that says it's ok.

Neat book the Decisions - got some strange stuff in the there. ie my favourite Q."What is the status of a snake?" A. A live snake is an outside agency, a dead snake is a loose impediment....

You may hold the flagstick whilst putting, but it musn't touch the surface of the green. A player could otherwise us it as a support in say windy conditions.
