Putters - which one!!!

Really pulling my hair out with this one....

Im in the market for a new putter and for the life of me I cant make a decision. Ive tried loads mainly TM, Odyssey 2-ball & Nike. I really like'd the look of the Taylormade Raylor Ghost Daytona putter but when I tried it out it didnt feel right as it needs to be out in front where as I like to get over the ball.

I also think the putting greens in DG & AG are RIGGED so this doesnt help with choosing the right one either

Go to Direct Golf. They have a custom fit option which will help you narrow the choice for you. Then it's down to feel

As with all golf clubs it's what fits your eye. I would try as many as you can until you find THE ONE. It will not be the same as everyone else's it will be yours. You will find it,it's out there just keep picking them up and tying them until you get it, you'll know it straight away when you have. Putters are like women, hard to find the right one, you go through a fair few until you do but when you get a good one you know it.

No point in confusing yourself with an elaborate choice of putters!

I would say, if possible, go somewehere where you can try the putters on a real green so you can try putts of different lengths. Those little putting areas in shops are useless as they are flat and fast and small. I don't think it gives you anything like a real feel for the club.

Agree that even a basic custom fit for length and lie is useful.

When you say "out in front" do you mean you have to stand further away fom the ball? In that case a lie/length adjustment might be the answer. Hopefully one of the forum's putter experts or maybe THE putting guru (Bobmac) will have some more expert advice.

If you cannot make a decsion in the shop how about trying putting lesson with a good pro - who can help adivise you on the type of putter best suited to you. Then as others have said go on feel - as you will be with the putter for a long time.

Swapped my ping answer for an odyssey sabre tooth and find aligning putts so much easier with it. Still getting used to the feel of it though as I had no insert on the ping. Always said I would never change my putter but have been alot more confident and consistent from under 6 foot with the odyssey.

I tried quite a few models and some other popular ones just looked wrong at address, am sure this affected the stroke I made with them. So you have to search for the one that looks right to you for starters! drawboy sums it up nicely!

am going to have a putting lesson at some point soon as well though, I've had so many good tips in previous lessons on other aspects of the game it has to be worth it, even if the the pro says you have a good stroke and there is little wrong with your putting that's going to give you the confidence to putt better and hole more putts.

Firstly, is it too heavy/light?
Does it look nice?
Does it sounds nice?
Does it feel balanced through the stroke (not twisting either way)
Does it feel nice when it strikes the ball?
Is it under £100?
Would I be better off buying a V-Easy and learn to putt properly?

gonna get rid of a couple of wedges and just carry 3 putters

I agree that trying on a proper green is really the way forward. The holes in AG etc have holes with the lip crisply edged so it'll take even the off centre ones. A putter is like finding a girlfriend/wife. Plenty of fun to be had looking around but once you find what you're looking for its for keeps. I hope the search ends soon

The TM Manta looks very interesting as does the new Odyssey Metal-X range, YES also have some TM/Odyssey lookalikes that are worth exploring.

Don't rule out some of the newer brands either, I just got a rife it feels like it was made for me
