Putters really are a personal decision but in order for people to recommend certain models it may help if you said what you were looking for ie a blade style putter or mallet head for instance, milled face or soft insert or if not tell us what you are using currently. I can thoroughly recommend my putter the Ping G5i CRAZ-E which has now been superseded- in general the Ping putters of all styles are worth a look in my opinion, along with the usual culprits of Odyssey, Scotty Cameron, Yes etc.

Could you tell us a little about how you putt? ALways short, always long, pull push etc.
What are you using at the moment.

Welcome to the forum by the way!

If you are looking for the best of both worlds i.e a blade face with the alignment assistance of a mallet I'd suggest the Odyssey 2 ball balde (XG2). It has a nice soft face and the the 2 ball design really helps on the nervy short ones.

At the moment I'm using the Spider Rossa from Taylormade which I guess falls into the mallet camp even though my partners have nicknamed it the branding iron. It has a firmer feel (as do all the TM putters with the red AGSI faces) than the Odyssey and is probably more suited to a slower green.

As you haven't specified your current make and model, putting technique and the state of your putting it is hard to give anything other than general advice. I can only suggest going to a decent pro shop or store like American Golf and trying as many out as you can (preferably on a proper green) to see which suits your style best. Let us know how you get on

Feary i have a Odyssey dual force balde and can highly recommend it.

But as eaglehunter stated putters are a personal decision.

As everyone else has said - try loads and find out what works for you.

My recommendation?

What about the granddaddy of putters?
the Ping Anser.

Most modern blade putters are essentially modifications to the original Anser design.
They can be found to suit all budgets from a second hand e-bay bronze anser (about £35 to £40) through to the precision milled redwood version ( about £180) or - if you're feeling flush, some of the rare originals are worth tens of thousands.
Personally I have two - an old bronze one and a stainless steel Anser 4. I love 'em!!!

I've got an original bronze Anser 2 which I tried recently for the first time in years. Was surprised how hard the ball felt of the putter head after years of playing with inserts.

I really want to get back to using a heel/toe blade but my putting (especially short 1 and 2 footers) hasn't been good enough hence the two ball and the spider (better alignment through the stroke). I've also got an Odyssey 552 with the black insert which might get an airing on the practice ground again

I carry the TM Rossa Siena 4 which comes well rated and in my eyes it is fantastic.

Try loads and just go with what works for you to be honest. When it comes to putters forget brand, forget aesthetics, just go for what gets it in the hole best.

I have the odyssey XG7 and love it, But I also love the no.9 too so am looking to get that as a second putter! Its a smaller mallet but still has a good alignment aid on the back.

"What about the granddaddy of putters? the Ping Anser."

I got one of the old ones from eBay. My third putter in two years and the one I will be using from now on.

You miss long, so you dont leave it short. I would suggest ditching the idea of a mallet unless you really struggle to line up properly.

Do you have a local pro shop where you can try them out on a proper green?

If not, get to all the local golf shops and play withthem all. When you find the right one, you will know!

Like everyone else has said, get out there and try as many different styles, lengths and shaft bends as you can and get the one that you feel most comfortable with.
When i got my Ping Karsten Zing i must have spent hours in various pro shops and retail outlets over a three week period. I whittled it down to the Ping, an Odyssey and a Taylor Made(all blades) but went for the Ping because it was the only one without an insert in the face and had the better feel for me.
That is the thing you have ti remember, its what feels right for you. You may even end up with a £25 cheepo.
