What you after for it? I dont want to pay much. I usually use a 34'' but as a second putter i wouldn't be bothered about an inch, I could always get it cut down
Worth finding out what sort of putting stroke you have -straight back and through or a bit in-and -out. If it's the former then I understand the received wisdom is for a face balanced putter (mainly but not always mallets- ive still got an old bronze Zing blade which is face balanced for example) and toe weighting for an in-out swing.
Having just gone through the CF route with it I couldn't seriously recommend just buying one off the shelf unfitted. There's length, lie and to some extent loft involved in a putter CF process none of which you have a chance of getting right without a CF.
Moneywise - well, it's the only club in the bag your going to use at least once per hole so if you can afford it then don't stint. The current forged, milled putters are frankly amazing. Hard to believe that you can do much with putter technology but it seems I've been proved wrong.
Phutted around for a while after Mrs. BillyG got her VP-1 courtesy of GM and came close to buying a TM Corzina but ended up going with a Ping Redwood Piper S in the end as it's pretty much perfect weight and feel for me with a forgiving sweet spot, I'm a Ping man through and through and this is their top line and finally because it's faced balanced.
I've had it two weeks (Ping turned the order around through the local pro in less than a week) and I just love using it.
I know many on here swear by BIG mallets but personally I feel that many look like they've been designed by a lobster on crack with a pencil strapped to it's pincer.
Still, if it works for you and puts the ball in the hole then get one without hesitation. The biggest problem your likely to have is how to choose between them all - there's LOADS out there.
If Nick Faldo is right and we should have putters with lofts of around 5.5 deg in UK (4.5 in US) then by rights all the putters sold in this country should meet this spec.
Bet they don't and I bet that pretty much none of the outfits selling putters have a clue as to their lofts.
Just as a side note.....I went to look at new putters today, and rather than buy one with the right lie for me, the range pro made mine a few degrees more upright....result!
As a gesture of my gratitude, I took and old 5 wood off his hands. quid pro quo....
The moral of the story.....if you find one you like but it seems a bit upright or flat for your taste.....ask if it can be adjusted.
