Drive for show and putt for dough. Never a truer statement made, especially in the case of Martin Kaymer.
Just watched the past 3 hours of the Abu Dhabi tournament this morning, hoping Rory or Poulter would win but with true stereotypical German efficiency and lack of emotion Kaymer holed everything with the putter. Some of the putts were exceptional in the pressure situation of a close fought last round.
Sickening when you play against soemone who you outplay tee to green but who out-putts you. :(

Bottom line to remember next time you're banging away with the new shiny driver at the range - short game is where it counts! ;)

A very confident interview response to Howard Clark at the end, he, Kaymer, want's to be at the Ryder Cup.

That's what we need in out team this year, people who really want it !

When that Livingstone bloke asked him if he was comfortable in the company of the "big boys" his face was a picture. Of course he is you numpty cos he is one of the big boys knob question

Well done Martin Kaymer and also well done Midget Mac and Poults a great last days golf

Was watching it over the last few days a couple of things I noticed.

They say Poulter isn't that long off the tee yet he was keeping up with McIlory and Kaymer on nearly every hole today.

Also if I was a pro golfer and one of the first questions I was asked in a post round interview was about TW I would get seriously p***** off !!

You right about the putting though, I'd say Poulter was pulling his hair out watching Kaymer pouring them in when the pressure was on.

Yep, I watched 3 hours this morning as well, although HID wasn't too chuffed. Excellent golf by all 3 main combatants, and the world rankings positions are beginning to look good in Ryder Cup year. Not sure Poults is on Monty's secret list, but if he carries on like that he will be in the team. However, I also feel that he may struggle on the US tour and would be better off in Europe.
Kaymer is a class act, and McIlroy's putting (his only weak link) seems to be getting slightly better.

I think what nailed the door closed for poulter was missing the fairway on 18....He had to lay up for a wedge and Kaymer was able to attack the green with a wood.....I think it may have been poults day if he had hit the short stuff also this would have had a bit more pressure on kaymer.

I agree with Kid2. You could see it in Poulters face on the tee when he missed the fairway that he knew he was up against it. Still a solid performance from both Poulter and McIlroy which bodes well and a typically Langer like (German ruthlessness) win from Kaymer. Good coverage (apart from Livingstone)

Sorry Homer but the german stereotype crack is totally unnecessary. Kaymer seems like a nice bloke and we'll be cheering him on come the Ryder cup.

Cracking win for Kaymer as predicted on thursday, just a shame I didn't have a few quid on him.Holed the putts when it mattered.Good start for Monty and his Ryder cup points list, sure he'd be happy with the top 3 all making his team.

Personally, I thought it was a quite 'panzer' like display from young Herr Kaymer....

Don't get me wrong I like the guy. I think he has the talent to go all the way. I was referring to his on course persona where he seemed very focussed (hence the Langer analogy) whereas you could see Poulter and McIlroy getting a bit tense. I didn't actually think it was a stereotype at all. He was pretty ruthless especially that drive down 18.

I think he was very good in the post match interview too especially to keep a check on it with the "big boys" comment. Like I say I do think he's a star in the making and will be great for the RC side
