Where I grew up in Notts, all the local pubs had a skittles alley and there was a thriving league. Most streets had a team.
It doesn't seem to be a thing where I now live in Herts, which makes me sad.
Anyone here still do pub skittles?

Sadly we lost another pub in the village on Sunday and with it another skittle alley. I believe neither of the remaining 2 pubs have one but there is still one in the adjoining village

I believe some teams in the local league now share locations.

Where I lived in Woking, Surrey I think the nearest one with an alley was in Hampshire

I always remember my Grandads local in Bulwell (Notts) having a skittle alley back in the 70's/80's.

There was a small local zoo up the road in Hucknall and one day one of the Porcupines escaped....was later found asleep in said pubs skittle alley!!!!

If you mean the long skittles alley, Rich, I used to work in a pub which had one and it was booked most nights. Not sure of any these days, although table skittles is still really popular with several leagues.

Born and grew up 5 miles from Hucknall and never heard of a zoo there. Google says it closed in '76. If I was ever taken there I'd have been a toddler.

You're east midlander too, aren't you?
Curious that the 'sport'' seems to have been mostly around there and the southwest.

Yeah....was in decline in the early 70's...think I was only ever taken there once...I'd have been 8 or 9 probably so '74/75 maybe. Was located next/close to what was the Blue Boar Inn, which I believe is now called The Bowman

Am sure there’s something in “ ye olde trip to Jerusalem” pub in Notts where a skittles type game is. a Few hundred years old it is.

Just googled it myself, I was only 13 when it shut though.

If you travel north a bit to Bedfordshire, you can play Northamptonshire Skittles https://www.mastersofgames.com/rules/northamptonshire-table-skittles-rules.htm at this terrific pub https://www.thecockinnbroom.com/about

It's not skittles as you know it, but fun nonetheless.
