Yep marketing hype to get all levels of handicaps to use their ball rather than a cheaper ball, if this was the case then why would they make all the other balls (nxt pts etc) I bet if you went out with a Donnay it would make no difference to your score and that goes for almost everyone.

I bet the scoring would be different and a lot would be able to tell the difference.

the x for me, not sure I could tell the difference, anyway, trying the dx3 tomorrow if course is open, bet I won't feel difference between the two,

I dont mean to be insulting or demeaning here im so apologies if it appears that way but how many of us on here actually hit the ball well enough consistently enough to notice the difference in balls of equal quality..

I can totally understand putting and the feel of the ball off the putter because there is alot more touch involved in it , but with driver & irons id be of the opinion we at our level have different contacts and spin rates on the ball every time we hit it so i dont see the subtle differences in equal quality balls being a massive help or hinderence

i use titleist because i prefer them ive also used the TM Penta and they are lovely ball im just wondering tho if i hit 10 chips with each ball would the 10 shots be the same or react the same ? personally i dont think so ..

Thoughts ?

My thoughts are you are spot on. I suspect it's more of a placebo effect. If you convince yourself that a certain ball is better suited to you, then you'll have more confidence.

I agree with you, most of the lads on here would not be able to tell the difference between playing with a Donnay Ball or a Pro V1 and if they were to go and get a ball fitting would probably be advised to avoid the Pro V as they don't have the correct swing speed to get the best from the ball.

Sorry but even I could tell the difference between a Donnay & a Pro V1.
I wouldn't have a clue between Pro V1 & X tho

I absolutely, catergorically can't tell the difference. I like using them both.

Teeing up a prov1, fresh out of the box. on a long par 4 with water on the right and OB down the left, is buttock clenchingly satisfying!!

I agree. It is amazing how many mid handicappers can tell the difference though.

Have you bought a ball retriever yet ? It might help unclench them buttocks.;)

Not so sure about this, think the really low guys would see a difference but for likes of you and me it would make no difference. Maybe we should give it a try and report back.

I have done it with a pinnacle yellow thing - the feel of the club was awful and my short game with it was awful - no feel around the greens at all.

I certainyl feel the difference - felt the difference between a Penta and a Pro V and a Zstar

I did some ball testing for a well known rival mag two years back along with driver testing - you could tell the difference quitre clearly

Not sure it's much of a test at present when the greens are like sponges it won't matter how you hit it on its going to stop if it's more than about 3 foot in the air?

Not sure what you mean, seaside courses are dry and have firm fairways so I am sure I will be able to get a good comparison between the 2 balls
