What arrangements do you have in your clubs for arranging matches in knockouts - it's such a faff trying to agree dates for 4balls - weekends or mid week, and who sets teh date and what if you cant make it ....

Must be some sensible protocols out there ?

We are supposed to have the match at the top of the draw do the phoning. Never works out like that though. I say just get on the phone and get it arranged as soon as possible. Dont wait for others as they will most likely leave it til the last weekend and then say theyre on holiday (knobs)

Point is...just get on with it before its too late :p

Wot he said :D

Get in early, offer them the dates that you want to play. Don't leave it to the last minute and don't let your opponents leave it either.

We split the responsibility between both pairs to arrange but if the match hasn't been played by the deadline both pairs are D/Q'd unless there is categoric proof that one or other pairing made stringent efforts to arrange a variety of dates and times.

In the old days it was the top pair in every match that had the responsibility but that always seemed unfair. I know I had terrible trouble trying to arrange my Volvo knockout match (with HTL) against two guys from Maidenhead who only wanted to play midweek after work. It took a lot of haggling and threats to claim the match etc to get them to shift at all and even then they weren't happy. They won of course so we didn't even get the satisfaction of the last laugh

That's exactly my point in this case, we have given dates on Sats, Suns and Fridays over 5 weeks. Our partners have a bit of a problem in that one cant play on Fridays, and the other cant fit another weekend in because of all the other competetions he's entered.
This year the club is having a strict DQ policy for both teams if not played !

OK so there are a few "top team makes the first call" but how do you go about deciding what they must offer - i am sure i saw something along - you haev to offer 2 separate weekend dates and 1 midweek date. And the other team has to accept one of the 3 ? Seems sensible to me

I have no idea what is 'supposed' to happen at ours, but this summer I got to the final of the singles and the semi of the doubles, and I was the one doing the phoning and arranging for EVERY match.

People on the whole are extremely apathetic when it comes to these sorts of things.

First named player or pair to make first call.

Offer opponents 3 dates at least 2 of which should be on a weekend.

If these dates are not suitable to either party and any other arrangements cannot be agreed, the match is to be played @ 09:00 on the closing date for that round. Failure of one or both parties will result in DQ.

I know what you mean mate.

1st round of summer knockout this year, draw goes up 2 days after entry closes. We are given 3 weeks to play the 1st round matches. I'm the second name in my match, wait a week for him to call then give him a bell.

Me: "Hi, we need to arrange our match"
Him: "Okay, when can you play?"
Me: "I can do any Sat or Sun @ anytime and I can be on the tee @ 5pm any evening"
Him: "Can you play on Wednesday @ 11am?"
Me: "Er, no I've got a job"
Him: "Okay that is the only day I can do, I'll have to concede the match to you"

WHY BOTHER ENTERING THEN YOU MUPPET!!!! :D

The first named are the challengers, so, they pick three dates and offer them to the opposition. Dates offered shouldn't be all within the same week.

As others have said get in there early and get things sorted out. If your not the challenger and you've not heard from your opponents, get on the phone and get things moving.

I always do the phoning as early as possible ( generally the same day as the draw )for my own peace of mind and generally get the game played when it most suits me but there are times when it is very difficult especially 4BBB to fit everyones needs.

What I also do is immediately when the first round draw is made I contact the KO organiser which in our club is the competition secretary and ask how many dates need to be provided minimum to opponents and of which part of the week do these have to be spread over as to be fair.

By doing it this way whenever a problem arises over arranging a match date ( and it will ) you always have the comp sec / organiser on your side and can also use it in your defence on the phone to the opponents ;) ;) ;)

If these dates are not suitable to either party and any other arrangements cannot be agreed, the match is to be played @ 09:00 on the closing date for that round.

Oh i like that - very sensible clear bit of conflict resolution there : think i will nick that and propose

Cheers

Do you take an apple in for him Griff? ;)

LOL :D :D :D

Joking aside it certainly gets the match date arrangement sorted out quickly with minimum hastle and when you are in a club like ours with over 700 members and 5 knockout comps running simultaneously it makes life much easier :)

If the opponents are being awkward put it in writing to the comp secretary with the full list of dates and times and ask for a ruling. At my club if one side can clearly show intent on trying ot get the match arranged they usually will get a W/O if they match isn't played in time

People must be jumping for joy when they draw you in the knockouts. The Fun Police are in Town!!

Top team do the phoning, but if no match can be arranged, the team standing on the first tee, at 11 am on the deadline day take the win. If both teams turn up, you play.

At our place the rule is top name arranges the match. If no date can be arranded it goes to the last date of the round and whoever shows up at 6pm on that date goes through.
We have some smartarsses now and they try all the tricks in the book(not many just a few) this years scratch matchplay (bottom half) was a joke. 2 guys who are at the club every day, went over by 2 weeks, saying they couldn't get time to play their match. If it had of been up to me, both would of been kicked out. Ended up I beat 1 of them in the final, oh btw their match was never played.........joke.....

It rhymes with rollocks.

The rules are set out for everyone but some people try and take advantage, insisting on midweek dates, inflexibility with times etc. I appreciate we all have other things in our lives but if you know the rules and the dates of the matches don't enter if you can't honour the committment.

I have to say though that for the most part common sense prevails and a compromise (of sorts) is usually found. Much harder in pairs events to try and get four guys to find a mutal date and time.
