Pro shops, does anyone buy from them?

Interesting debate. I recently bought new irons from my pro but bought all my woods on ebay as they were 2nd hand, however, the old saying, use it or lose it springs to mind and those that don't use it will probably be the first ones to moan that there is no pro shop.

Depends what you want in a course

theres a very popular public course near me... no pro shop.. just pay your green fees at the till and they sell balls / tees etc plus chocolate etc

Running joke at ours. If you see something you like support our pro, he'll get it in for you in about six months.
I've only bought one item. I had to wait 3 months, by which time I didn't need it.

all the stuff i own is from local pro shops, with one exception the shaft in my driver which i got from someone on here. We are very well served in Inverness. I can't even remember last time i went in AG let alone bought anything

The guys in my pro shop are excellent. Good selection, they price match, you always get a warm welcome, free tips. They generally add a lot to the club so I always try to support them.

I get all my gear from my pro shop. He does his best to price match when he can.

I get most of my gear from our pro shop, certainly clubwise, but not all clothing. He always tries to price match, can't think of any time recently that I've gone elsewhere for sticks. The guys in the shop are always friendly and always happy to chat and offer tips and advice.

It definitely depends on the quality of the staff.
If they go out of their way to almost make it impossible to spend your money elsewhere then people will use them.
If they're a bit half-hearted in their ways then, if you can save £25 buying online then many will...
Last club was the latter...
The Zoo is better but could be better still.
They have fitting days, run by a bunch that have several shops and ranges. I imagine money changes hand for the use of facilities but the clubs are ordered through the "visitors".
Pro has a range to use and a LM - CVG got fitted for wedges last year but I don't see many going through the process.

the pros at our place are really good and aim to price match any online deal that is out there. They provide great after service that you wouldn't get from an independent retailer or online shop.

I'd always support the pro with this approach.

I have found that the proshop is the best place to get the newest clubs. I got new irons a couple of years ago and the pro was able to get them for me £40 cheaper than the best price American Golf would do.

I think when it comes to old stock the likes of American Golf are better value.

Like others have said, I also like to support the pro where possible although I do draw the line at £1 mars bars....

I try to support our Pro shop as much as I can. I've now bought my irons, driver and one of my wedges from them as well as bags, headcovers, shoes and other stuff. I have to admit that where I can I wait till he has a sale on and so can get some great deals then. They've got an excellent sale on at the moment which I have put on to the Bargains thread.
I get the family to get me vouchers for the Pro Shop rather than presents at Christmas and on my birthday although to be honest I'm now that kitted up I've asked them to change to lessons vouchers to make sure I can hit my nice shinies properly.
I see the Pro Shop as an important part of our club so I like to support them wherever possible.

...all the time.

Ours is part of Foremost too... that helps. Most stuff is price matched and you can have sensible discussions where needed. Bought my last pair of winter shoes from club shop, were £15 more than best 'net price, but the box and receipt have gone in my locker - if they leak within the guarantee, I know he'll send them back to FJ and replace. No arguing with a website. Does all our club logo stuff, does them cheap to the Teams too. Very helpful with demos, demo days and no pressure selling. Decent range stocked too.

Top man all round, works hard, puts up with some nonsense from certain folk - and listens to countless tales of woe as folk come in after their round.... "ignoring the 7 doubles, I'd have had a net 66!"

Use it or lose it! Newport GC are lucky to have him!

Almost all my gear was bought through my pro.
With the exception of some clothing.

I have found my pro can get anything in I want within a few days, and as I am up there every weekend, its never been an issue for me.

There seems to be a lot of people saying they buy from the pro if they get a price match. Does this mean the stuff is priced high and you have to haggle? Don’t like that sort of buying, would rather pay the price on the tag as long as it’s reasonable.

I would suggest with less buying power (unless part of a group like Foremost) their cost price may be higher which gets passed down the chain.

The Foremost set up seems to be the way forward. My club doesn't have a pro or shop but I won some pro shop vouchers last year and used them at another club. They were part of Foremost and their pricing was very fair. If I was a member there I would use the pro shop I think.

I buy all my golf kit through our pro shop - we are part of the Foremost group and so we do well on the price matching front. May cost me a few quid more for some things but as the club owns the shop I'd rather put a few ££s back into the club than into someone else's pocket. Besides - the more business I put through the pro shop the more likely I am to get occasional free tips and guidance on my game :)
