Was wondering what people choose in this economic climate. Whilst I feel people should support their pro shop much like the local corner shop I am fully aware that when using on line, substantial savings can be made.
If buying clubs, bags, trolleys etc I am very much a 'stick with the local pro shop as if anything goes wrong its easy to take back. Also its nice to speak with someone face to face. But I am not adverse to buying balls, gloves etc on line.

I have always bought from my pro shop up until about a month back when i bought a garmin gps g3, just couldnt ignore the 60 pound price difference.

I have wondered how much id save over the year with gloves etc, they cost 12 pound each at the pro shop when you can buy 3 for 15 online, same with balls etc.

Have bought my irons, driver, fairway wood, hybrid and also wedges all from my pro shop in last year though including an electric trolley so all in all about 4 grands worth.

I will always give the pro shop a chance. They will price match so I should not lose out and the shop gets the sale. They price matched when I bought my GPS.

I agree, I give our pro every chance to price match. Got a new pair of dryjoys tour from mine for £70 less sweep money that was lying.

I bought some shoes from my club shop and they couldnt be beaten on price, a superb deal, and superb service. I use the internet, AG etc but if I can use my club shop I will.

I try to use pro shops but occasionally have used American Golf and JJB sports if the deals have been good.

for bigger purchases id go through the pro because id know i was getting a proper service from him, where as id always think that AG and DG were just selling me what made them most money or what they had to sell where the pro would be selling me whats best for me. but smaller stuff im happy to buy anywhere, aslong as i was getting the best price for them.

I tend to use the local ranges and AG stores to try any new clubs out and then give my pro the chance to price match the best deal I see. I get some great deals especially my FJ myjoys. I don't use him for clothing as he only stockys Cally gear and I'm not a huge fan plus the majority has the club badge on

Just bought a new set of irons, a hybrid & a carry bag from my local pro shop.
Good guy, good personal service......and I'm not even a member of the golf club.
Oh.....and I also bought a couple of Under Armour base layer tops from him too.
I support where I can & he price matches where he can, job done.

Slime.

Same here , you must give the pro shop a chance to at very least match the price , if we dont one day we turn up and there be no pro shop and we be short of an item or two , what then , buy online and hope you get it in 10 mins UOTE=Bigfoot;506667]I will always give the pro shop a chance. Should always give the Club Pro shop the chance to 'price match'.

And convenience is worth a few quid too.

I am with the majority on here about giving him a chance. If you have seen a good offer somewhere then sak him to try and match it. At my old club the pro would always try and match Internet prices if you asked him, he said he would prefer to make £1 ten times than £5 once. Makes good business sense to me.

When I bought my Ping i15's I saw a good price on the 'net, didn't think the pro at Highwoods would be able to match it. I went into the shop just before I was about to pull the trigger on them when I saw he had them on display at the same price I had seen them for online. So he got my business. I picked up my new S3's at a bargain price from an ebay seller, and knew that our local Cobra stockist (Cooden GC) couldn't get anywhere near. I will usually shop around on the 'net, get some idea of prices and if the pro could get close (doesn't have to necessarily match it, I would buy from him. Less trouble if anything goes pear shaped.
The only thing I won't do is use the pro (or anywhere else for that matter) to try clubs out if I have absolutely no intention of buying from him/them and then come on this site slagging him/them off for the crap service that they provide...... That's a big "no no" in my book.

My pro shop can jog on. I feel ripped off and raped for my fees, and it's only getting worse.

I'm not paying 100 quid for a pair of trousers, when i can get a pair of shorts for 35 quid down the road. I'd rather go cold a couple of months of the year.

Buy most stuff from the pro shop, as they will price match genuine on-line prices.

Last year I had my eye on some new woods in the pro-shop, the pro advised me that they would not be any improvement on what I currently have and that he would not be happy selling me something which I didn't really need. Can't say fairer than that.

I'll always give the pro a chance, I hear a lot of members complain how expensive he is but he did me a good deal when I bought my clubs, granted he was £15 more than the best price I got from the Internet but when I'm spending that much money I'd rather give Ali the extra £15.

My pro usually keeps his prices in line with American golf, so not too much of a problem there. He also usually gives discounts to loyal customers which I think is quite nice

I have made a few major purchases from my club pro. He pricematched my irons to the best price I found online and his sale price for the driver I just bought was £129, a good £30 cheaper than American Golf and a host of online retailers were selling it for.

I try to use the pro but sometimes he makes you wish you hadn't .
Only last week I was faced with the choice when buying new wedges as AG had the clevelands at £60 each or 2 for £100 . I said AG was doing offer he wouldn't match it As he had already dropped them to £59 in his sale so for sake of £18 I still bought them off him hoping he remembers when I want new clubs at a later date
