Premium lake golf balls

Huh, interesting.

I have recently purchased some Tri speeds off ebay, new ones for just under £20 each, three doz. for under £60.

I did consider pearlers untill I saw that deal! I never trust a lake ball, this game is hard enough without playing with a ball you are just not sure about the quality of.

I am sure it has been asked many times and answered just as much but what damage does water do? Any scientific tests?

Personally I still would rather play with a new ball, just in case!

Do you know what balls are in the packs? I can't see water affecting a sealed unit such as a golf ball? I stand corrected if there is some conclusive test to suggest otherwise, but I can't see how it would affect a ball?

Probably compromises them slightly but not as much as my wildly erratic swings so its pearlers for me until I improve , which is happening by the way

im the same, pick up some good deals on pearl prov1's that look and feel brand new. I know a number of people are against non new balls back id rather lose a prov1 that's cost me £1 than one that cost me £3..

I thought I read somewhere that it was the fact the ball had been exposed to the relatively cold temperatures at the bottom of a lake for a sustained period which would have more effect on the performance of the ball rather than the fact it has been submersed in water. But I may have dreamt that.

being in water would not pose too much of a problem but its all the other toxins that can also be in water.

I currently playing with 25 refurbished pro v's from American golf for a tenner. there was 2 scrappers in the bag but the rest are fine.

would happily play these all the time if I can get them. great value. absolutely no difference to brand new ones.

Please please please don't bother with these my old dear bought me some, I ended up throwing 5 away and the remaining 7 are really only any good for those holes you think your gonna possibly lose the ball

I have a right mind to contact trading standard as my mum bought them thinking they were "recycled" which she took to mean they had been through some kind of refurbing process but they not even good enough for practicing

I use lake balls which I get from a guy in eBay taylormade tp black, he sells 36 for £13 describes them as AA/B grade but I've maybe had 4 or 5 that were patchy but all were playable

I wouldn't touch lake balls as there is nothing to verify how long they were submerged. I have no hard evidence other than personal experience but there is definitely a noticeable dip in performance. There are loads of better options and I'd be looking online for something lie Wilson DX, Bridgestone E5 or E5 etc

What dip in performance did you see?

I find it hard to see how amateurs who very rarely hit the same distance every time the tee the ball up could tell of dip, unless of course your saying that every shot you hit with them was 20 yards shorter than you expected .... But even after my own testing, hitting 2 new balls around a course, I rarely hit the balls the same distance each time.

Sorry homer but I'm not having it that you could notice a difference between a Pearl Pro v1 lake ball & a brand spanker.

Distance. I hit 3 lake balls and 3 balls I'd used to play and had put in my practice bag (so still relatively new). All were Pro V. The lake balls were at least 10 yards shorter. Also they didn't feel as crisp off the club face and one was distinctly pudding like. As I said only personal experience and only something I did on the practice ground last year out of curiosity as this was a popular thread last year and I just wanted to see if there was anything in it. I'm not saying there aren't good ones in a pack but I just can't see how you can work out which are the good ones before you start. I just think in this day and age you can buy new cheaply enough

Interesting, for me I'm not sure I could notice a 10 yard distance with only 3 balls being hit. Unless I was consistent enough to stick the ball with a yard or two of every ball i hit I don't think I would be confident enough to know it was the ball rather than my swing. Even on a launch monitor I varied as much as 20 yards and that would be with identical environmental conditions and landing area (eg bounce and roll out)

Totally unscientific. I hit 3 lake balls v 3 newer models with different clubs from wedges up to driver and the only thing I know is that the lake balls were all shorter across the bag. It may have been coincidence but the most important aspect as far as I was concerned was the way one ball in particular felt much softer off the club face.

Maybe it felt better because you knew it was a new ball you was hitting. Might be different if you was been given random balls.

Yeah a blind test would be the one. We need Mark Crossfield to do a video on this using track man, I'm sure a lot of people would be interested.

Well HimID used the same Titleist lake ball yesterday (9) and today (18) . Shot a gross 91 today his best ever score so far since he's gone back to golf.

you can pick up brand new premium balls for under 20 a doz if you look about it hardly seems worth it buying used balls.
