Pre-Game Routine

Our practice green is always significantly faster than any green on the course. I have no idea why, but it is a pain.

Ours is like this too, I asked the greenkeeper one day and he said its because it gets more foot traffic than each green on the course will and therefore is only single cut whereas the course greens are double cut.
I assume that meant they cut them in both directions on the course making them shorter and therefore faster.

I played in a big pro-am a few years ago and the pro came on the practice range with me prior to going out but never hit a shot i said are you hitting a few he just looked at me and said" i have been hitting golf balls everyday for 40 years i think i know how to do it by now sonny"

What a bellend !!

Attitude like that is uncalled for from a Pro when a genuine question was asked.

yeh if its a medal i'll hit 25 balls on the range, 9i, 7i, 5i, 3i & driver

then i'll hang aroung the putting green for for 10 mins or so before tee off.

Social game i dont bother

In a comp I like to be ready for that first tee shot. Go on the range hit some balls, have a good stretch and get the swing going. I could never just walk up to it and hit the ball with any confidence. My first hole is hard as nails, 420 yards out of bounds all the way down the left, big old oak tress all the way down the right, not the biggest landing area for the drive to go into, A green that is elevated, 12 foot drop off on the right with a narrow green that runs from right to left making it impossible if you miss right to get up and down. If it was not the first it would be stroke index 1 not 9. Never in a million years would I play this hole without going to the range and getting the swing going.
