I never used the practice green at my current course as it is completely different to the course greens and dials you out completely. I do use one at a local course and practice on a carpet at home, especially length rather than aim.

I put a tee 3 feet from the hole and and try to get 25 putts in a row from there starting all over again if I miss one. Then once I've done that put tees around the hole at 3 feet to form a circle and then put a tee 25 feet from the hole and I have to lag putt 20 in a row in to the circle starting over again if I miss, then do 35 feet for 15 then 45 for 10. Really puts the pressure on when your within a few of completing each section. Can usually do the first within 2 or 3 attempts but the lag putting can get quite fustrating.:sbox:

Not many people have too much trouble with the direction of putts, it's the lack of distance control that causes most 3 putts.
The reason........too much movement.
The hips turn, the shoulders turn and the wrists hit the ball and suddenly it's 10 feet passed
Add to that, a long backswing for the shorter putts and the golfer can lose confidence on the greens very quickly.

The way I teach people to putt is to limit the movement to only the shoulders rocking (not turning)
This means you only have one source of power to control which is much easier than 3 or 4 and that is done by varying the length of backswing to control how far the ball rolls.
I may be biased but the V-Easy is I think the best aid out there for keeping the wrists quiet during the stroke. Combine using a V-Easy with the chair drill and I think you'll find your distance control will improve dramatically, greatly reducing the dreaded 3 putt.
And its a good time to buy a V-Easy as it's now reduced to £16.99 from now until Christmas.

Below is a clip showing the chair drill. Keep the pressure against the chair on both cheeks the same throughout the stroke and your hips wont move.

I was also looking for a way to practice putting. I wanted the links putting tool but they don't seem to sell them anymore so I got the boomerang putting tool, it comes with a 12ft mat and a adjustable ramp to teach distance control. I've only used it for a few days but its good fun. Whether it will help my putting is yet to be seen but the reviews seemed good.

Bob, I have been using the V easy for my putting practice and just bought the iping cradle and using the Iping App, my delivery of the club head is really good, open or closed only 0.3 of a degree and quite consistent, but it says I have a strong arc through my putting stroke. Is this something that the V easy encourages through quiet wrists, or is it just something else I need to work on?

it sounds as if you may be standing a touch to far away from the ball at address.
Do you feel your eyes are directly over the ball?

Do your shoulders turn through the stroke?
The idea is to rock the shoulders up and down
If you watch my video above, you will see they don't turn as they would in a normal shot.
