Possibly a daft handicap question?

Joined a club for the the first time in August and submitted 3 cards I am now the proud owner of my first official handicap (16).

Is a new handicap active or inactive?

I know I have to play in at least 3 qualifying tournaments in a year but when does the year start and finish?

A handicap only becomes inactive if you dont hand in 3 cards in a season.
Don't worry, your handicap is active ok.
