During my winter sabbatical from golf I took a growth spurt and i now stand at 6ft4" and when at a lesson today I was having difficulty hitting my irons the pro instantly said that my clubs were too small and that I should consider getting a custom set. Now I am excited over the possibility of it, but I am also wary of the cost. I am 17 so still in school I don't get anything like EMA but the possibility of a part-time job is arising my parents would probably pay the substantial fee for the irons but I would feel guilty for them having to do it I will offer to go and meet them some of the way over the costs, but my worry is that since neither of them play golf, will they understand the higher costs of better clubs, will they understand that no expense is of the custom-fit session. But aside from all that WOOOWHOOOOOOOOO new clubs!!! What should I go for??

I was looking on AG and I like the look of those TM Burners on sale at £299 has anyone tried them how are they?

You could have your current clubs lengthened and the lie changed.

Go Ping! You are now old enough I promise!

Seriously, I have the fortune (although it sometimes makes me feel vertically challenged) of being rather average in height - hence custom fitting does little to me (although I have custom fit Pings). The taller you are (or smaller) the more you will benefit from custom fit - Either in shaft length and or lie. Dont forget that you might also be able to px your current set.

I suggest that you highlight the fact that you are no longer 5ft 8!

How mauch would that cost though, would I be better to upgrade altogether and keep the set for good few years instead of wanting new shiny ones after lengthening my current ones?

Several options. The first is to get yoru current set lengthened and maybe get the lie checked too although if they are cast it could be tricky to bend them too much

You could go for a C/F set now. Explain to your parents the problems your spurt has had and the huge disadvantage you are under and that is affecting performance. A PX, plus your P/T money will mean it won't break their bank. To be honest the cost of a C/F is usually around the £50 for the fitting at a manufacturer HQ (maybe cheaper at AG or a pro shop) and so it isn't a huge additional cost on top of the new irons.

parent who don't play golf are the best for haggling down the guy in the shop my mom asked so many questions as to why my irons where so expensive we got 100 euro off the asking price

getting a driver next week and im bringing her along

best way to convince them about spending more is unlike a cheap set a good set will still have pretty good value next time you want new irons for a trade in

boy at our club has a spare set of irons that are extended think they are nicklaus irons fae AG could ask him for exact specs etc, if your interested dont think he will want much for them, could be a cheap option

Ok thanks I see on their website that the only shaft that they have available is "Uniflex" which is between stiff and regular which should suit my iron swing but we shall see!! I'm beginning to get very excited about the thought of a C/F session!
