Monthly stableford today and after hitting the ball so well for weeks since my lesson I was looking forward to it. Shame then that I chose today to swing like a dog and hit the ball as badly as I have done for a while. 32 points (15 out 17 back). One under my handicap after 5 holes then had my customary nightmare at our short 6th for a no score and the same on the shortest hole on the course (8th).
The back nine wasn't much better and I struggled all day off the tee and was out of position on virtually every hole. So why the title. Well I came 9th in my division and as CSS went out to 71 there was no damage to the handicap. I chipped a little better and putted well but the big positive is I found a way for the most part to keep the scoreboard ticking over. If I can swing that badly and still get it round, it bodes well for when the game is back on song. It wasn't what I was looking for in the first comp of the year but in the past it would have been a real horror show.
Definitely a glass 1/2 full sort of result. The downside is I don't understand where the swing went especially as I was hitting okay warming up and played half decent yesterday. I think its all about tempo and overswing but we'll graft it out on the range this week and come back ready for business next weekend. Funny how out of the face of adversity you can see positives
PS - for those of you now suffering from shock at the new positive and chilled Homer I apologise
