Practice is working on a specific drill or swing change. That has no place before a round. I warm up and hit some balls through the bag working on purely getting the muscles loose (getting harder as the years go by) and find a nice smooth tempo. I'm not too hung up on direction or distance

Practice for me is getting out two or three times a week and playing 9 and/or if time and circumstances allow 18 holes. Playing only the Saturday comps would be a pointless waste of time.

So getting out with a mate and just hitting balls around the course, for me is exercise, I get to understand the greens better, the course better and I get to play lies I cannot at the range.

I don't practice but I do warm up on the range. I never used to but doing a manual job all week I have found that my shoulders take a bit of loosening up before I play. I do mainly wedge shots with about 10 full shots then a bit of putting before I tee off.

hacking it at the range pre round is usually a good sign for me!

at my old course in Ireland I would play the par 3 course before playing the main course. that is the ideal warm up. who has the time for that these days? :mmm:

A few in the net for me. A few tops, fats and shanks and I know I am ready to go.

Yes, very important to cover the full range of shots ;)

I will try to hit a few wedges and mid irons and have a few chips. When doing that I am trying to think about my swing to get the right feel and thoughts. I find that to be more effective than just hitting balls.

Not sure if that counts as "practice" rather than "warming up" but probably a yes for me.

After getting off to bad starts in the first few competitions this season I have started o hit a few shots n the nets first, not a lot maybe 20 or so. Then a few putts to try and get the pace of the greens. It does seem to have helped.

Get to the first tee few swishes with the driver and I'm good to go,played in a matchplay yesterday was early so had 15 mins on putting green, 10 mins. Hitting 7i in nets, then went out played the worst I've played for a long while, so sod the warm up.:)

It's a bit hit and miss with me. I have tried to find the magic formula a few times but I inevitably get my arse handed to me and it's back to the drawing board

I'd like to think so but in truth probably not, still play the back 9 better when I feel I either feel mor relaxed or the card is ruined!!!

The worse thing is when you hit a few before but duff, shank, top.......... Not the best feeling walking into the 1st tee!!

Well after that 4/2 drubbing with a bit of practice beforehand played another matchplay today, parked the car walked to the first tee one practice swish with driver then went on to play really well winning 3/2. So one swish with driver is going to be my practice routine now.;)

When it got to the business end of the matchplay cup at my club (which I won) I would go out and play 4 or 5 holes before the round. If it was quiet I'd have a few putts on each green to get the speed and line in my head. Back to the 1st to meet the oppo safe in the knowledge that I already had the first few holes mapped out, more often than not I'd be 3 or 4 up after 5, probably mostly due to confidence rather than anything else. I wish I could do the same for strokeplay but as it's not allowed I have to make do with the practice green, which being constantly under shade is very different to the course greens.

It's a yes from me, I've never started strokeplay rounds nearly as well.

I never drive well if I haven't warmed up, and hate going to clubs without a driving range - a net next to the first tee just isn't the same.
