warming up - yes
hitting balls - yes
chipping to establish the speed of the greens - yes
putting (from short distances, holing everything) to build confidence - yes
none of the above is the same as practice for me though.
which begs the question - how are you defining practice for this poll? hitting half a bucket of balls?
For me no. if I hit balls before a round I always seem to Sherman a few of them and that’s the last thing you want on the fairway with a wedge in your hand for the 2nd shot on the first hole.
Few putts and a couple of swings with the driver and off I go
Yes it does for me, however I will hit 60 balls max, and 20 or so chips plus 20 mins putting. I don't do this on medal rounds, I do my practice during week before.
But this is all meaningless because I still have medal rounds it does however get me out of the house and my mind emptied of the rubbish.
Not if you mean warming up, although I never, ever warm up by hitting balls, so maybe it would help. Usually I have 5 mins on the putting green, a few swishes and then off we go.
Practising helps but not as an immediate pre-cursor to a round.
Practice for me is warming up with 30 balls , a few drives ,a few medium irons and long irons but mainly short game stuff with pitching and pitch/ chips .
But mostly I'm running around trying to flit from one thing to another and end up doing a few chips and a few putts.
Maybe warm up with a few stretches and a few half power shots to loosen up then half a dozen putts to get my eye in. I try to keep my good shots for the course.
usually warm up with a small basket (30) balls, hitting 3 balls with each club, starting with lob wedge working through the bag to driver. I find I start better with this than just a having a few swings on the first tee.
In an ideal world I'd get to the course early and stretch out, but usually due to someone else I'm running late so just run to the first tee crack my limbs and aim straight
Practice is something I do after work if I am not going out on the course.
Warm up is hitting balls down the range before playing on the course. My warm up starts by hitting about 10 balls with a 7 iron, however, my hands do not get above waist high and I try to hit the ball a maximum of about 100 yards. I then hit normal shots starting with the wedges and working my way down to the big bats. I always try to finish my warm up by hitting the club that I think I will be using for my first tee shot. I never practice my chipping before a competition, and the only putts that I practice before I go out are 30 footers. I have never seen the point of missing a load of 6 footers before playing a comp.
I always get to the course at least 45 minutes before I play in a competition to allow for the warm up. I have a few mates that do not hit balls before playing and then wonder why their round is over before they have completed the first four holes. And there is no excuse, we all pay £20 a year for unlimited use of practice balls.
Warm up by hitting a few (usually < 10) balls in the net or down the range then a few 20-30 footers on the green.
If I'm in one of the later groups in the roll up, I might chip a few too.
Is that classed as practice? I'd say not.
