When cleaning your clubs do you finish them with some kind of polish?

I did not used to but now I have nice clubs and a xmas present that contained some wax (mainly beeswax and paraffin wax).

Is this stuff suitable for polishing clubs? Should I use it?

Does anyone else use something? What do you use?

Re: Polish or not toPolish?

I just make sure the faces are clean and there's nothing in the grooves and give the grips a clean every couple of weeks. My clubs still look pretty good without any need to polish. Can't see the point as it won't help performance

Re: Polish or not toPolish?

WD40 for me.

Once a year might get a proper polish.

I use iron head covers so like to keep a bit of WD40 to stop any chance of rust.
If you really want to keep your clubs nice get some good ones even if you do get a bit of stick from the ping brigade.

They don't know what it's like to have nice irons.

Same for me, I use head covers and WD40 the shafts every day. Just soap and water for the heads and a nail brush for the grooves.

Is that every day Alex?? Does anyone work round here

Why WD40? Waste of time and it'll just eventually run down the shaft andonto the grip. Clean them, dry them properly, end of! Don't you think that if golf clubs needed treatments the manufactures would be punting us special designed only for Mizuno Titleist Srixon whatever oil at £30 a can! These guys never miss a trick if they can get away with it.

Go figure!

This may sound harsh but ..... FFS get a life.

Not harsh IMO I give them a rub with one of those wire brush thingies then wipe with a towel after a shot and that about does them.

Having forged clubs and using headcovers with them raises the potential for rusting.

Why use head covers?
Because I like to keep my clubs chatter free.

Why use WD40?
Because I don't like rust. It just adds a protective layer and helps to keep the rust away.

Does the WD40 end up on the grip?
No because I only generally spray the heads lightly. If I ever did the shafts I'd leave them head down overnight or something. You don't have to use much.

This isn't something I do every shot or every round. But every few weeks or monthly I guess.

Also if you use WD40 on your balls they play better in the rain.

Every time I use them then, and that is just about every day. I spray some WD40 on a rag and run it up and down the shaft, then do the same with a clean rag.

Why not look after your clubs? I would not do the heads as I dont want them to be slippy, but I do take the head covers off every time I come in the house. As has been said, forged clubs rust if they are not looked after.

Just soapy water to clean my clubs once a month or so, towel them dry after. Use a towel to clean when playing. The only additive for me is a little gun oil on the putter head, and in the putter cover, as recommended by Scotty C to avoid the rusting.

I clean them when they are mucky but that is rare. Probably about twice a year if that. I am usually motivated to do this by the grips not being tacky enough. Plenty of fairy liquid and steel wool gets the muck out of them and they are like new afterwards.

My irons get a bit of spit and a wipe on a towel to clear the face before I play a shot. As long as the grooves are relatively clear, I can't see the point of a cleaning regime that is as often as those stated here.

I don't have forged clubs though. If I did, I think I would be more rigorous in terms of keeping them clean and sparkly!

But polishing them? That is ridiculous....
