Playing to incorrect hole location - what would you do.

Player B did nothing wrong in the letter of the rules but in the context of sportsmanship Player B should have had the good sense to offer a half although I feel Player A was perhaps naive in asking for it. If I was Player A, I'd definitely be seeing all putts in and good manners would be out of the window

Two wrongs don't make a right. I'd d laugh about it and behave exactly the way I normally would.

Its the first hole after all.

Wouldn't have asked for a half or given one either. The hole is player B's.

Yep exactly this - you play to hole , if someone has moved the flag and someone gets an advantage from that then so be it

Player A hits a good shot next to flag but Player B duffs it and just trickles on to front of green.

Reading it again I think it's that point that has annoyed Player A who thinks it should have been halved.

Still stand by my reply though!

Both players could concede the next putt which I think gives a half in the original scenario.

If the players know of this decision and agree not to abide by it then they'd be agreeing to waive the rules which is a DQ. If the players don't know the decision and agree to a half then they're not guilty of agreeing to waive.

Being aware of the decision or not is irrelevant. Anyone can concede a putt at any time for any reason.

It's difficult really as no rules were broken but it does come down to why we play the game as amateurs.

I was playing a cup match on a course I had never played before. Hit a solid drive and having scoped the yardage, hit a good shot onto the green. Only to then be told it was the wrong green. My opponent had seen me measure the yardage, line up to hit the ball and didn't say anything until I had hit it. When he informed me it was the wrong green I asked why he didn't say anything and his reply was "I thought you were looking to play a big hook". With a 7 iron on a straight hole - really!

Couldn't get up and down to the correct hole so he won the hole and the match.

Maybe he was pleased but can't say I would have been happy to have won in the circumstances.

My first sentence states that both putts can be conceded which in this case would give a half. However, if one player had played three and one had played four, then a half can't be agreed, unless the players go through the rigmarole of the player lying three putting and then both players conceding the putts for five.

If I was player A, I'd just accept it for what it was and get on with it. I certainly wouldn't ask for or expect to be given a half and if I was player B I wouldn't expect my oppo to ask for it. Sometimes you get the bounces, sometimes you don't. That's the way golf is.

Sorry, but it's just tough luck. Still maintain there was only annoyance because there was a duffed shot which ended up near the hole.

BTW, I gave putts in the semi final match I played yesterday so I do do it.

I'm with you on this, it's just the way it goes

You didn't say that when the bloke holed out in the Nike pairs on the 19th with a putt going so hard it would have been on 2nd tee had the flag not got in the way

Of course I did, it was jammy as hell but there is nothing you can do about it. Stuff like that happens in golf, if you asked for a half every time luck went against you you be asking for an awful lot of halves

A question for all those who think it should a half. If the hole hadn't been moved, player A hits a shot in to about 4 feet and then player B skulls his shot that slams into the flag and drops in, would you expect A to be given his putt?
