I've been playing golf now for 6 months having not played for the last 6 years and find myself really annoyed at the lack of respect on the course. I intend to join the private club I played at before in the new year but have been playing on municipals of late and I find it to be a horrible experience!! I generally play in a two ball and after 6 months we have never been waved through when stuck behind a slower group! It's so frustrating and at times I stupidly let it affect my game! Does anybody else suffer from this problem and if so any suggestions??

Without wanting to tar all muni players with the same brush, it is not uncommon to find this on muni's at busy times. It must also be said that it is not uncommon to find this on private courses as well!

I played yesterday at Troon on one of the Muni courses. I had forgotten just how busy and slow a saturday morning can be when playing a busy muni. We had a group in front of us who lost two holes on the group in fron in the first twelve holes. Would they speed up, no. Would they consider asking our threeball, who were all playing well to play through, no. Did they speed up their consumtion of the small green bottles they seemed to leave on many tees, no.

There have been many posts on here about muni courses and the problems of all and sundry playing at busy time, but, we all had to start the game somewhere didn't we.

We joke about the Muni Rules Golf. Anyone come across these before,
1) You can play when the group ahead have taken their second shots on any hole.
2)You can leave your trolley at the furthest point from the intended route off a grees to the next tee.
3)You can search for a ball for at least 10 mins before someone finds it in the middle of the fairway.
4)The "No Alchohol" rule is for Non Golfers.

and if their are carts on the course

5) You can behave like a complete cretin when driving a golf cart.

There must be others....

lmao. Sorry but I have come across just as much ignorance of etiquete and rules on both types of course, my longest round ever (5 hrs 38 min) due to lack of wave through was at a private course following a 4 ball who were 3 holes down on the group ahead. I think there is often a little rose tinting going on when people come across this common problem and the lesser courses and muni's tend to get an unfair hearing sometimes. It does happen but it happens everywhere with varied frequency, it depends on the kind of people not the type of course and you only need a very small group to mess everything up..

I have to say that in my opinion the problem is generally worse at munis, simply because members tend not to put up with it for too long and inevitably report those responsible to the relevant committee. My club has a positive policy on coming forward ad reporting those members who refus to let others through, particularly at peak times. Those reported normally get a reminder of the ettiquette, but they are always closely watched for a few weeks later. I have known some to be brought back in front of the committee and threatened with a short ban.

As a result, and with the exception of one group of 6-10 who sadly go out first light on a Saturday and therefore set the pace for the day, everyone else is fairly respectful in terms of keeping play moving. The group who go out first are now getting such a bad reputation that I have heard action is imminent.

Of course, slow play in competitions is inevitable especially medal rounds. However I don't know anyone who doesn't play a provisional at the first sign of a ball being in trouble (sometimes even 5 off the tee!) and groups behind are often let through while searches go on. In stableford all members I have played with will pick up on a hole they are out of rather than keeping playing down the hole to the green.

The one drawback of my track is that the club has no real say about the course.
The greenskeeper/course manager can and will assist all he can in setting up for club competitions but he has no responsibility for stewarding games.
With an element of pay-and-play and the societies, the proshop take the money but also have no responsibility for stewarding games.
You just have to (try) to accept that some people (of all levels of ability) just don't belong on a golf course.
Friday was a case in point. I was soloing and caught up with a three ball at the start of the back 9. JB Holmes had nothing on them and they were all supposedly mature adults.
It took to the 16th for them to think about getting a move on, by which time 4 games were backed up; no hint of letting anyone through even though they had so lost touch with the game ahead that they were no longer visible - I think they had finished and gone home by then!

I kept telling myself to relax, but there are times that just doesn't work. The 12th destroyed any hope of that - I delayed my 2nd until they had cleared the green (it was reachable - which I did). The 13th tee is no more than 75 yds away. I played my 2nd, walked to the green, two-putted, got to the 13th - and they were still teeing off, they then had the gall to stand there and disect each other tee shots - I had to back off or at least one would have been in the lake with an iron round his neck!

Two good points there but it is all down to the will and commitment of both members and committee, sadly a lot of the time some clubs do little or nothing.

Played a private course Saturday and the 2 ball and 4 ball in front of us were ridicoulosly slow!

The reason........

3 lady members hitting everything 30-50 yards, 2 in a buggy 1 walking they were in and out of the buggy more times than I care to mention.

On the 14th they ignored the buggy path and proceeded to drive into a ditch. The 4 ball had to push them out,the women driving it pressed the accelerator covering them all in mud.

Did they let anyne through did they heckers like!

And theres another thing.......buggies!
Have you noticed the ridiculous way some people use them, most of them travel 3 times as fast as average golfer walks but they always seem to be holding up lol.

I can understand the physically disabled in some way but many others who use them never cease to amaze me.

I think the problem with buggies, on the courses around me anyway, is that there isnt enough. One club near me has about 4, which are always booked, and those people normally go miles quicker than everyone else, but what is the point in that? Part of the reason I love golf is for the walk!

played with my societycouple of weeks ago, had a great start , 19 points off front 9, driving like a demon!

came the back 9 & the delay at each tee box & fairway of 5 minutes or more, fell apart , ended upwith 30 points...

no chance of a call through as there were so many in front.

really pissed off saturday night when 36 points won it.....
