Looking for thoughts on this. 4 ball, player 1 is 100 yds from the green. Player 2 in bunker just left of green, players 3 & 4 through the back of the green by 5 yds or so.
P's 2,3 and 4 walk to find their ball before P1 hits to the green. Ps 3 & 4not really paying attention looking at their ball when P1 hits the ball. P1 doesn't really realise the shot wasn't hit sweetly and is slightly long. Can't really tell how long it's going but it's bang on line to the flag. Ball just misses P 2&3.
P1 would have shouted 'fore' if they thought the ball was going anywhere near anyone. Who's responsibility is it? Should people wait until everyone's hit before moving in front of the balls?

some blame lays with them all but ultimately players 2 and 3 shouldnt be walking behind the green with someone still to hit their approach shot and not paying attention so no one else to blame but themselves if they got hit imo

By all means 2, 3 and 4 can move up to the green before 1 plays their approach if they have time to, but they should make sure they're well off to the side of the green when P1 plays their shot, and it's their responsibility to know when that is.

Absolutely. Everyone to take some blame but player 1 shouldn't take it all, as they did on the day.

Did player 1 receive abuse for not shouting, is that what happened here?

For me player 1 should have shouted there is never an excuse not to shout, but also players 2 and 3 should be paying attention, why would you stand in the line of someone's shot and then just switch off? Do they not realise golf balls are really hard?

What I don't get is why they were 100 odd yards ahead?

Anyway for me there is blame to spread around but player 1 has to shout fore.

I would have shouted fore !! before playing the shot , just to get their attention.

But why was he a 100 yards behind ?

It was a social game and nobody else was on the course. He was 100yds behind because he was digging out a plugged ball, finding a dry spot on the fairway and drying his hands (some people know it as fannying around). He rightly received abuse but I don't think he was solely to blame.

We'll have a bleather tomorrow about it over a pint
