Ping- Play your best challenge

Keep it going John, sounds like your coach is on top of things plus it's not about constant practice but the right practice! I can only manage 2 short practice sessions and 1 game per week, but the 3 things I've worked on are now coming good and the practice is to cement them as opposed to starting a major change.
I went through the same as you with the swing change, I also questioned what I was doing but it comes good believe me, and you will enjoy your golf even more when it does.
Keep positive and thanks for the update.

Toad. What you just wrote is exactly the kind of piece that keeps my interest in the challange - the struggle, the emotion - the journey...that would make a great blog update.

This^^^ I get that you think people will not be interested in you hitting balls and in general I would agree but in this case we all wanted to get a blow by blow account, we wanted to be involved and kept in the loop. I also think that is should have been awarded to people who did and could make time. Clearly there is some sower grapes as we would all have loved to have won and had the clubs as the coaching but as with James I think more could and should have been make of this. That said, best of luck moving forwards!

Edit: One post maybe should have been made the "Official" post and then it could have come and gone up and down the rankings as it was updated and replied to.

'Since the challenge started in March I have had 3 lessons with my coach, a day with Westwood and Tom Lewis all of which have been written about on the micro site'.

John, out of interest, how many lessons could you have had? Could you have had one a week for example? Did your coach suggest one a month?

The reason I ask is that no way will three lessons, a day with Westwood and Tom Lewis, equip anyone to hit their PYB target, even if you practice the right things, as per the three lessons, daily IMO.

I disagree, some will make it without all that as they (like me) have made pledges to do so and am working hard on it. This is easy for me to say as I wasn't chosen (just found out why now by reading the GM page on how they chose the lucky 4), but if I was custom fitted for every club, custom taught and supported constantly, lessons from 2 famous touring pro's, custom mental and physical support and exercises coupled with my desire to achieve it, I am extremely confident I would have achieved it and loved the whole journey.
Of course it's easy for me to say and without being in their shoes I'll never know, but a man can dream!

Where is the how they chose thing please mate?

Which GM page? I'd be interested to read about it. Didn't apply myself as no time this year, just interested in the process as it is a very ambitious exercise.

Just wait till you hear about the emotion and struggle after he plays with me on Friday!!!!!!

That'll set him back a few months.

I'm surprised to read people don’t feel there has been much coverage of PYB challenge

To date there have been over 20 pages in the magazine on PYB and still more to come including the report on the Grand Final day on October 1st where the four will try to break their targets (and to which other readers/forumers will be invited to play at - stay posted for more on this)

There is the dedicated PYB microsite - http://www.golf-monthly.co.uk/pyb2012.html - which the guys have been contributing blogs to

They (and us and PING) have all been tweeting about the PYB challenge

We have posted lots of PYB videos on our youtube channel http://www.youtube.com/user/golfmonthly that have been accessible via QR codes in the magazine

There it is then Mike, you have used every bit of media you could lay your hands on apart from your very popular forum.... did youi really need a mini site or whatever? you seem to have watered it down to the point where some of us missed it...

Particulary intrested in the one i entered ha , how to break 70 .. it is a long term goal of mine , personaly dont see me doing it this year , maybe never , having said that i am near to this years goal so i know how exciting it is to be close to reaching the target , the guys picked must feel great .. would love to read more of the mental side of it , have been reading it in the mag , im not on twitter or face book , will have a look at that microsite tho it looks interesting ,

Good Luck to all 4 ..

I guess I thought if folk wanted to follow the PYB process they would have - all the channels we'd be using to tell the PYB story were highlighted during both the selection process and when the identities of four who were chosen were announced

Yep, I did not really mean to be rude or harsh, it just feels like your main audience would be the 796 people who applied and did not get though. At that point of finding out they were not picked they maybe did not have their eye on how to follow it and maybe guessed it would be spoon fed to them. I think what has happened is there was a lot of excitment then a lot of disappointment and then a lot of nothing (clearly we now know there was places to find the info).

From my end if I had been one of the winners I think I could have brought a lot more enthusiasm and a little more of a spotlight to the hundreds of people who did not win but were still interested well wishers. I feel I would have owed it to them, and to then say that family life and weather have scuppered it is a bit of a kick in the balls!!! Why apply if you wont have time or are a fair weather type?

For me I like my media interactive, hence the forum love and less interest in social media and web sites. My comments are coming from that side of things. Maybe I should have made more effort to find out what was going on but I did look and was unable to find it until you posted the link. We could have had a sticky with all links and FB/Twitter comments in plus some chatter. Its easy for me to think that this forum is the center of the GM world as its where I goto but I guess you have a lot of other avenues you have to consider.

Toad keep up the hard work mate as it was the toughest challenge trying to break 70 ,especially round the 2 tracks you play at heck pro's would stuggle to do it.

Its sour grapes i think the people who are complaing about it if the are such internet junkies as they say they'd have found you progress easily.

Keep up the hard work mate i'm sure you'll get there.

£50 in my hipper on Friday and I'll wax lyrical about his 68 for the next year! Even longer if he likes!

Back off Amanda..... when they do the ladies version I'm bagsing the beat 70 gig! ;-)

Ahh but the challenge and story would be greater for me than you and your single figures ;-p

BTW - the 2012 version wasn't gender specific though I doubt many of the fairer sex entered!

i didnt enter this as i would have had to try and break 70. not a chance at my place. i would then only be 4 shots off the course record. dream on gary !
