So at the weekend we were in Manchester visiting family so no golf for me. I ended up doing a deal with HID that I go to the range on the way home, so rang them to see if I could have a knock with the g25 irons. They said I could and if I could book in advance they would put me on the flightscope, winner.

So took my 5&8 irons plus pw just to compare. The pro was great and pointed out my ball position was slightly out and a touch too near my back foot which helped! So overall all flight wise nothing unexpected prob a club difference in distance but more importantly a lot tighter on dispersion, lovely clubs in my opinion.

Now before I went I had already looked through the ping online fitting and done my measurements and was expecting 1/4 to 1/2 inch longer shafts in white dot. My only thought was wether to have stiff or regular shafts so was looking forward to trying these options out.

Now this is where the fitting blew my mind, the stats showed I was averaging 80mph swing speed, well in regular territory! So not only was I looking at old man clubs I was swinging like one! The next weird thing was the black dot and standard length shafts were working for me best! I'm 6'2" so this was really odd but obviously not uncommon. Now my callaways are 3/4" longer which is obviously wrong and gives me a good excuse to spend some cash.

So now all have to do is block this from my mind in the short term as all I can think of is "these are too long" so here's to new shinies and hopefully as soon as possible!

Has anyone else had anything strange come from a club fitting?

i had a similar session when looking for new irons when the G20's came out. I couldnt hit abad shot when trying them out/getting fitted, but didnt have one decent round with them. Sold em on here infact. When i got fitted for the pings they put me on a yellow dot. six months later i got fitted for a wedge ping tour s at the same place and i was put back to black dot!

My advice would be to go for a few fittings at a few different places, and compare the results

A regular shaft is not an 'Old Mans Shaft' Most golfers IMO would play better with a regular shaft. I see too many golfers using shafts that are too stiff and lofts too low. No wonder so many cant drive a ball over 200 yards

Yeah I did have a doubt and asked my pro and he said it happens more than you think. Before I part with my wife's hard earned cash I will def be trying a fitting again may even spend the extra £30 and go to Gainsborough as its only just over an hour away from me. I've also tried my playing partners g15's which are yellow dot and stiff shafts and flush them every time! Strange game.

I have no problem having regular shafts just thought I was border line. The swing speed was a real eye opener thought it was a bit higher that's all. As to loft check my sig my driver is 11.5 degrees and agree too many players trying to play with 9 degree stiff shafts! I have a friend who plays off 11 went to a mizuno fitting, told 12 degree regular. Now he admits the dispersion was better and miss hits weren't as bad. What did he get 10.5 stiff! And still moans its the weakest part of his game.

I ave stiff shafts in my irons and been flushing them on the range lately and last 6 holes of recent round (took me that long to find a swing). Went to stiff in driver and can't hit the bloody thing!

If your that close to Ping HQ for me its a "no brainer" and its where I would be going without a shadow of a doubt. That's where you'll get the best service and best fitting by the experts!

I got fitted for my Ping G25's a couple of weeks ago and found out that I have a swing speed of 87mph and I am also on the yellow dot.

Great thing about Ping though is that in 6 months time I'll get re-evaluated by my pro and any changes to the loft/lie will be free.

Had my first round with them last weekend and I saw a def difference

Is that 80mph for a driver or for an iron?

Irons 77-83 mph.

Will def go to ping and do it all again it was just a case of trying them out while I had chance.

As for my mates yellow dot he is 6" shorter than me so needed to get checked.

If I'd had the funds is have ordered a set ages ago lol! So far searching the house for things to sell! Lottery ticket bought!

Plus the wife thinks we have more important things to spend money on!
