Folks,

I'm in the market for a new set of bats (HCP 14) and have some shiny new pings in mind having tried several different makes.

I'd really like to go up to Ping HQ but am nervous I'll end up with an RRP deal rather than closer to a web price. I don't want / expect to get full web price given service offered but neither do I want to end up playing a massive premium also.

Their website says the fitting needs to be booked through a local outlet and is chargeable, anyone confirm this and the charge made.

I am looking for complete woods / hybrid / irons so not a small outlay and hence the odd 10% difference will really add up.

So, experience / advice / thoughts really appreciated.

Simon

Ping don't allow registered stockists to advertise prices on the Web. But can get them by phone.

So any you see are likely to be knock-offs.

If you have a local Ping stockist, you can check 'deals' with them. Otherwise it's something to discuss when booking fitting.

Not quite true, they can advertise the price online but you have to phone up to actually buy the clubs (so that they have the opportunity to check you are buying the right club for you)

I wouldn't worry about the fitting. The setup at ping is very friendly. They will have seen every type of swing going. No worries needed

Chaps - half quote from post reply here, I'm not nervous about the fitting (swing is what it is!), I am nervous (aware / concerned really rather than nervous) about pressure to buy at Recommended Retail list prices rather than deals available + also mention on Ping's website of charging for the service but no clue of how much (presumably discounted if one follows through any buys produce, never known of car manufacturer charging for a test drive!)

Simon.

Worry not. Ping fitters are not sales people, you will be under zero pressure to buy.
The fitting fee is £25 I believe, which can be waived if you buy the clubs.(unless it has changed). You are not able to order direct from the fitter, usually it's a case of getting your fitting details and then getting a price from your booking place. Price can then be negotiated.

Thanks Lump, that was the answer I was hoping for. Surprised they charge but I support it diswades golf tourism and knocking off purchase make sense.

Do Ping retailers do deals, my perception was that of all the manufactures they were the 'that's the price if you want the clubs' type, esp for current models hence my scepticism / caution with on-line retailers of Ping stuff.

Thanks for initial comments folks. A quick web search revealed this retailer:

A significant saving vs rrp and didn't have the feel of 'knock-off' unless I am being very naive?

Indeed, those guys are certainly not knock-off guys. Based in NI, not far from a few members here!

That seems to be different from the way Ping worked a year or so ago (mainly 'call for prices') - or I may just be spouting rubbish! Even AG have Ping prices on their site! Apologies if I misled you.

With the amount you are spending, a decent discount should be negotiable.

Hope the fitting goes well.

I'm sure Ping set a MAP price depending on the age off the range, I would say there some retailers are selling closer to the map price than others. Prices seem to be with £20 of each other, some wanting more 'meat' on the bone from the sale.
