Ping Drivers, Year on Year

Homer, more and more people are noticing how you just post self indulgent blurb without actually answering the original posters question. It is an open forum to the extent that any posts within context are fair game (forum etiquette) there are infraction points for not following forum etiquette. I am sure posting non topical content in a thread such as this would qualify in future.
Back on topic gents.

I have to agree with this, yes it's a open forum but your post had pretty much nothing to do with the Op's post.

Point is in my mind when I wrote it I didn't view it in the way it was perceived. So what you are threatening is sanction for contribution. Think I'll post this to Mike as a) feels like a pop at Homer thread again which i can handle b) threatening free contribution which seems an abuse of moderation power. I did ask that anyone wanting to continue this take it offline to clean the thread. Maybe the mods can delete the non relative content

That should take your post count down to about 50 then

Set you them up and I will knock em out the park all day :smirk:

Back on the original subject, I know a number of people who have played Ping drivers through the last few generations and most seem to thing that the G10 was the biggest leap forward and whilst the more recent ones have made small steps forward, if they were honest they are not offering a massive amount more. The G10 is a second hand bargain but there have been plenty of offers to pick up a new G15 for bobbins recently but I suspect that the stock is now somewhat limited. Give it a few weeks and the G20 will be not much over £100 new I suspect.

Had a G10, and liked it but fell for a Titliest 910 and sold the G10. Wish I hadn't, and then got the G15... I thought it wasn't as good as the G10. Currently using a Ping i15, which is working well, and one I'd add to your list to try.

Apologies to the thread police for mentioning another manufacturer and talking about me.;)

I have a G5 love it , tried the G10 &G15 I didnt see enough difference in them o justify the outlay on a new one ..

I do intend to try the G25 ..

Just a slight varience maybe it will give you pause for thought tho , i took a real shine to The new titleist driver , in a mad kind of attempt to remind myself how good my G5 is , i borrowed my brothers Callaway , im bombing it .. why have i mentioned this ? because like you im a ping driver lover but maybe a blinkered one , so to summarise this ..

i found no noticable difference in the 5/10 or 15 G series.. but dont discount others off hand ..

Steady on Brendy, there are a few of us here playing Homer Bingo:
Short game, half full, new clubs, linear method, FoA, new shoes, etc.
If you go curtailing Homer's posts what will we do?

No offence Homer, you're a legend!

At least yours had some relevance to the OP ;) rather than telling someone who does not have a lot of money to spend you are looking at getting either a G25 R1 or Phase 2 RBZ.

(post edited for Hobbit) :p

Mine also had a Smiley, Adey = just a little wind up...

Thanks for the advice and info gents. I may check out a G5/G10 in the coming weeks. Most certainly not an R1...

Everything I've heard and read suggest the G10 is very good and can be had for very little money second hand. Just get a good head (nice condition and good amount of loft) then its just a question of a shaft that you get on with. I don't rate any of the in house Ping shafts tbh - which is just my personal opinion.

Owned G15 and G10 (currently on Ebay) - and an earlier I series that I only used a couple of times before my step-son purloined it. Hit lots with G2 and G5. Had fitting for G20 in May so feel qualified to comment.

G2 was a revelation for both Ping and OEMs in general. G5 was a slight disappointment in that it didn't make similar advancement (something that TM may have learnt from) but was still a good club. G10 design seemed to go back to G2 and make another step forward. G15 was a new design that I think is the best of the lot. G20 shape is not my cup of tea but goes well. Adjustment on G25 is an advancement, but not sure how much is adjustable/changeable.

My advice would be G15 but, if on tight budget, the G10 is the one.

I was pretty happy with the Serrano (a standard upgrade) in my G15 and the equivalent (Tour) in the G20 felt fine too, though that was in my recovery (from broken ankle) stage when I couldn't load the Stiff Serrano and the Tour 169D was a Regular.

Ping have a reputation for 'lying' about loft. My 9* G15 was measured by a fitter at 10.7!

I bought it off a guy in Dundee so who knows...Its safely in my hands now tho, picked it up this afternoon. Still cant believe it...Theyre going for £50-60 on ebay

I was worried about the low loft (9*) but when i got him down to £35 i couldnt turn it down, no head cover but i can live with that.

Meant to add.....

Look at the Rapture, both original and v2.

I had a v2 that I liked, shaft in G5 just works better for me but Raptures are fairly cheap and well regarded also

Almost seems a shame to come on here and actually post about a Ping Driver, I was aiming for a full house on Homer bingo  only joshing homer you seem on to me though it was a bizarre post.

Back to point. I have the G20 and whilst I bought it new I'd heartily recommend waiting a fee weeks for the G25 to come out so that you can nab a G20 bargain in the price drop.

I tried all the drivers out there from all Oems, even tried the G15 side by side the G20. I just found the feel and sound of the G20 better but in truth there really isn't a great deal in it. One thing that IMO is for certain you will not find a more forgiving driver on the market than the G20, sure a TM suped up go faster white thing may give you a few more yards, but what's a few yards compared to the confidence a driver like the G range from Ping can give in forgiveness.
