I'm a big Ping fan and looking for a new driver in the not too distant future, once I put in a bit more work on my swing with the local pro. Getting married this year so budget will DEFINITELY be a factor, so the second hand market is where I'll be looking.

So, all the marketing hype aside about this and that, how do people find the changes in technology from one driver model to the following iteration the next year? Are there huge benefits and advances from one year to the next? I'm specifically looking at the G line of drivers, from the G5/G10/G15/G20?

Thanks

Certainly the G20 is an evolution of the G15 which was a (allegedly) major rework of the G10 which was a major shift from the G5.

To be honest they're all as good as each other as long as it works for you.
The G5 can be had for peanuts now and the G10 isn't much more expensive.

They'e all 460cc and the only real difference is head shape and internal weighting to improve forgiveness...

I was in the market for new woods last year and tried a bunch. From memory I couldn't tell the difference between the G15 and the G20 despite having a couple of rounds with the latter. I'm sure Ping must have "enhanced" the G20 though because IIRC it cost more :D

All this talk about technology. At the end of the day it's hollow titanium glued to the end of a graphite stick. They're all great and as said they're all variations on a theme. I'm loving my rapture v2. I think that once you've found one that works you can pretty much stick with it.

G25 on the radar for certain but also looking at the R1 and the Phase 2 from TM and the new Nike.

Do you ever read a post Homer?

The OP is asking if we think there is any real difference year on year with a certain companies driver releases or if its all just marketing hype and you (once again) make it about you and in this case what you are hoping to buy.

tsped83 even used the words " I'm specifically looking at the G line of drivers, from the G5/G10/G15/G20?" and you bring TM and Nike into it!

Why not try making some relevant comments occasionally instead of just coming on every day and feeling the need to post on as many threads as you can just to get that post count of yours as high as you possibly can.

Give it a rest man

To the OP.

Personally I have the G10 and have tried the G15 and the G20 and to be honest never noticed any significant differences, well not enough to make me splash the cash. Mostly just marketing hype in my opinion

G10 is an awesome driver, I doubt the new incarnations can really improve on it tbh. Maybe small margins but at our level will we notice? I doubt it!

I had a G15 many moons ago and loved it off the deck, for the very same reason I moved on as it was very high off the tee for me. I found all other ping G series drivers (the rapture v2 did have a lower flight) went higher than any other brand that I had tried.I wouldnt rule out the i15 just in case you hadnt even thought of it, saying that perhaps you might want more height.

+1 ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

The poor bloke just wants a bit of advice regarding the if there is much difference between the G5/G10/G15/G20. He already said that price is a major factor. I have a feeling that the G25 is well off the radar. Never owned one as I really struggle to like Ping kit.

My mate at the start of last year swapped his G15 for an R11 and instantly got around 20/30 yards extra and straighter than his G15. Do not just get one make in your head and go for it, have a play around and look at all options.

Only tried the G5 and its what I'm currently playing.

Shaft seems to be a good fit to me which helps but I like the shape of the head on the G5, it's 460cc but doesn't look huge at all.

Can be picked up dirt cheap and is the most consistent I've driven the ball in a long time.

I guess technology has "improved" the later versions but, if budgets s factor, you could do a lot worse than pick up a G5.

Sorry but under the impression it was an open forum.

100% correct.

But when someone comes on and asks a specific question why not answer with relevant response instead of talking about yourself and your game/equipment/course/pro or whatever?

It seems to me that you are more interested in boosting your post count than contributing to a thread.

If that is the case you really do need to get out more

Think after this length of time you'd have realised post counts don't bother me and I actually enjoy the banter and conversation but each to their own. All this whining about the post is diluting the thread so if you've really got a beef take it to PM so others can post their thoughts on the thread

Homer, more and more people are noticing how you just post self indulgent blurb without actually answering the original posters question. It is an open forum to the extent that any posts within context are fair game (forum etiquette) there are infraction points for not following forum etiquette. I am sure posting non topical content in a thread such as this would qualify in future.
Back on topic gents.

First of all, apologies to the OP but while im doing that may I also point out that I contributed to the thread title. Your first post in the thread started the diluting so maybe you should apologise as well.

Secondly, I dont have a "beef", im just fed up reading your completely and utterly irrelevant, self indulgent posts on peoples threads.

Thirdly, I dont feel the need to take it to PM, as far as im concerned im done and dusted with it.

Now im away back to my life, you should try it someday ;)

Point is in my mind when I wrote it I didn't view it in the way it was perceived. So what you are threatening is sanction for contribution. Think I'll post this to Mike as a) feels like a pop at Homer thread again which i can handle b) threatening free contribution which seems an abuse of moderation power. I did ask that anyone wanting to continue this take it offline to clean the thread. Maybe the mods can delete the non relative content
