I wear base layers (usually Under Armour cold gear) for the cold weather, but I've come across a new version for golfers that claims to increase your game !

Pelham and Strutt make golf compression tops that perform the usual moisture wicking and thermal capability that most tops do but the claim to fame is the unique built in zonal mapping that "engages those key muscle groups to perfect posture and improve your golf swing"

Below is the text from the company itself and the bold claims they make ....

Initially launched in 2012 to address the 80% of people who complain frequently about lower back pain, the undershirt was designed to improve posture. They had no idea these garments could soon be seen as a secret weapon on the golf course.

The bio mechanical effects of the compression undershirt were put to the test at the recent Golf Challenge day at the Welcombe Golf club.

With the help of a select few PGA Professionals and amateur players, some phenomenal results were achieved that went far beyond the expectations of the company and players alike.

Single figure handicap players saw an average of 14 yards added to their drives

The average reduction in dispersal in all players using a 7 iron was 5.7 yards

Various colours exist but at over £60 it will probably put a few people off, but what do we make of the performance claims? Can we really expect to see an average 14 yds increase (that's average remember so some may see much more) by just wearing a top? I would certainly be very happy to see the increase in my game stats that this gives !

tight underwear kills my game, trousers that cannot stay up are just a nuisance as well, constantly coming un-tucked is a real game killer ... Now give me a shirt like vest onesy with poppers or a button on under the crutch and that dear boy would be performance clothing at its peak!!

Sorry Scott, you must have been on my ignore list at the moment ;)

Interesting to see that this one is actually using real people for the testing, rather than mythical people, single individuals or even robot testers.

I wear Skins G400 range specifically for golf, Even during the summer. I also have some Skin recovery leggings that I put on during and over night after 36 hole events which I play a lot of, and I find it a benefit next morning my leg muscles are less aching then if I didn't wear them.

Total rubbish. Under Armour for me. Cheaper than this garment and its ridiculous claims

Did you try it Homer? Really it's no more extraordinary than claims made by a large number of companies producing stuff for golf. Including items like pro-core which I believe others have put down as gimmicks and you've defended.

Might be a bit over-hyped but I do find that I feel like I recover quicker and get less aches and pains when wearing compression gear which can only aid to increase performance. The design concepts and theory seem solid.

The redhead in the black that appeared on my screen certainly made me interested.

Brilliant!!!

Wasn't padraig Harrington trying to tell us his old Stubutt shoes gave him 10yds extra distance not so long ago??!!

Those shoes, this clothing and a zero friction tee and we'll be 30yds further without a trip to the gym or the range - marvellous :)
