Thinking of investing in one each, mainly for the summer. We already have 'conventional' carry bags.
Looking for something lighter and compact but still comfy to use. Would still like pocket for a waterproof (you know how it is!) MD Sugar is reviewed in GM - does any one have one and like it? Or anything else?

I recently bought the Callaway Mini Looper stand bag which is not quite a pencil bag just a small, very light stand bag and I think it is great. Have a look at it, it could be just what you are after.

I have never really seen the point, unless space in the car is an issue, when going on holiday. An empty stand bag weighs next to nothing, so all you can save is a few grams from not having a stand (I did win a pencil bag once, and have held my stand bag in one hand, and the pencil in the other, not a lot of difference, so I got rid of it).

Where the weight is saved is leaving a few clubs out, leaving the umbrella behind, or not filling the pockets with junk you don't need.

Not sure why anyone needs a new bag to do this.

Each to their own I suppose.

I was thinking of buying a Izzo one that was reduced in the summer to £20 from £40 so I could take half a set on the bus to work then pop up to the course over the summer after work, it didn't happen. Though a friend of mine only uses a Sunday bag for all his clubs, not sure of the benefit myself as if it rains he is nacked and if he needs to take a top off his is also up the creek. I use the Mizuno Areolite 2 and its very light and fits what I need, in the summer I tend to take most rubbish out and its very light, but also has the space for everything in the winter.

Totally agree with what your saying, if you are planning on using a smaller bag would you also be planning on taking less clubs out with you?

Had one as my first bag as a kid but never since. I prefer to have the option of putting a waterproof top or a jumper in and a few balls, drink etc. Much rather have a decent stand bag with a good double strap

I have a little Sirrus bag for squeezing into the boot for summer hols. Has a decent Izzo double carry strap and does the job, can just get a full 14 in it with a wee pocket for tees/balls/mars bar etc.
I trolley with a big rig usually but the small carry idea is good. You can't carry much but on hols you're not going to bother unless the weather's good anyway.

Try the Titleist X81.

I bought one in the Summer for those days when I didn't need waterproofs (although that wasn't very often with the summer we had), and am very pleased with it. In fact, I sometimes still use it now as it has enough space for waterproofs.

Granted, fitting a full set of clubs in is a struggle, but you can certainly get away with around 10 or 11.
