Myself and a player from another group played each others ball but this wasn't noticed until the next hole, both balls were the same brand with same markings but different number, as we were playing different holes and when noticed we had both played our tee shot on the respective holes so decided to just keep playing on with the wrong balls is there any penalty other than the normal 2 stokes for playing the wrong ball ie disqualification?

If you were in a Gross/Handicap competition you would be DQd if you teed off at the next tee having holed out on the previous hole with the wrong ball. You must go back and correct the error adding a 2 shot penalty, any strokes made with wrong ball do not count.

In a Stableford competition you would get zero points for the hole where you holed with the wrong ball.
