I sold my brother my old PC which had a version of windows XP on there, which I then "upgraded" to Vista.
He's generally happy with it but we want to "start again" with Windows 7 and clear all the crap (no porn!) off of it.
Would this version of Windows 7 allow us to do that?

Or do we need the "full version".
It doesn't say this is an upgrade version so I'm assuming it will work?
Remember, we want to rid the PC of all traces of XP and Vista and do a complete reinstall of a new operating system.
Many thanks
Rob

That should work fine.

The only bit to be careful of is that technically that version is an OEM license, which basically means it is meant for someone who builds a PC, rather than a consumer.

Doubt it would really make much difference, as it's still legit really, but as I work for a technology\software\IT company that loves to patent anything possible and then get aggressive about this, I'm probably over cautious if anything regarding software licensing!

So would it still give the "prompts" to clean the partitions like the consumer version would?
I'm basically a PC numpty, but having read how to do a clean install it "looks" fairly straightforward.
There is nothing on the old OS that needs saving, we just want to clear the old PC of crap and start again.

As above, looks OK to me.

Make sure you check the minimum hardware spec to run Windows 7 is met (you say it's an old PC). Windows 7 is a step up from XP/Vista. Needs at least 1GB RAM and will run much better with at least 2GB.

When I say it's old, it's not THAT old. Just the one I had before this one. It's got about 3GB RAM but just a single core processor, albeit a good one.
I've no doubts at all that it will run Windows 7, but thanks for the info

Hi Rob

The disc will do the job no worries

one tip though
While the vista pc is still up & running, go to Device manager
(start, RIGHT click Computer, Properties, Device manager)

Look at your network cards and graphics cards, write down their names and numbers, then go to the manufacturers webshite and download the Windows 7 drivers , save them to a memory stick .

Then if you cant get back on the web because your network card drivers arent installed, you will have them

Shout if any probs Buddy
