Paul Casey

how many points did we win by ?

Enough to win the Ryder Cup - but that doesnt equal that we should have been stuffed or that he got lucky.

The 12 players in his team got more points than the US

we won by one point 14 1/2 to 13 1/3
now cast your mind back to the weather

I was there watching - i know exactly what happened and i know it happened to "both teams" and Europe coped with the changes better and won

Winning by a point doesnt mean that "we should have been hammered" and that Monty was lucky - he did his job as captain and picked the right pairs and the right order to go out and win.

The US had the same conditions to deal with and they didnt.

I saw Monty in a clinic at Silvermere two weeks before the RC and several days after he left Casey out. It was inevitably on everyone's lips and he answered before it was asked and basically said Casey didn't fit into any of the pairings he had in mind, which you could read between the lines as meaning, he's not liked and no-one wants to partner him. He certainly seems to have burned a few bridges over the years

well not quite the same ,if you remember the yanks waterproofs werent and as such took a beating that day because they were soaked through to the skin ,and that really puts you off your game even if you are a pro ,probably more so because the yanks dont play if its chucking it down very often.
that day won the ryder cup not montys skill at paiting people .he was a very very lucky captain .

So are you saying because they had waterproofs issue they lost ?!!!

They were actually oding better when it was raining and when the weather improved from the sat sun and monday Europe went on a roll

Their waterproofs failed on day one and that first day was won by the US, soaked or not. Maybe being soaked through made them rise to the occasion.

Monty wasn't fortunate, he got it right at the end however picking casey ahead of Harrington may have made it a tad easier

Didnt Harrington form a great partnership with Fisher with them beating Johnson a couple of times ?

i remember ross fisher doing the damage, and paddy cheering him on.

I remember them being a partnership and Fisher saying afterwards how well they gelled especially with Harringtons reading the greens

And they also won 3&2 against Mickleson and DJ playing foursomes so how someone can be a passenger in that format I'm not sure

I've been a passenger in that format plenty of times, so can quite easily say it.

As for fishers comments, he's a nice guy and that was a diplomatic way of saying the following:

"paddy had a frickin nightmare! what the hell was monty smoking when he picked that chopper over paul casey? now where is the physio truck, cos my back is frickin killing me!"

Totally agree. In that format all you are trying to do is not stick the partner in the cabbage, let alone playing attacking shots. Harrington was conservative at best and it was down to Fisher to attack the pins as best he could. Granted Harrington made some putts but all the pressure was applied by Fisher.

Of course he wouldn't come out and say anything other than something diplomatic in front of the media and play is straight for the unity of the team. Why would he?
